The show is so much better with Corbin in it. It's still not a good production of the material, but he can sing the score and has loads of charisma. He united the rest of the cast in a way Hunter wasn't able to. It's hard to judge the experience completely as I knew what to expect and was immune to the jokes about Donald Trump, shake weights, etc.
I'd love to see Corbin get a shot at originating a role. The high school musical stigma is there, but if Laura Osnes can shake he reality tv start, Corbin could come into his own on Broadway as well.

Lindsay Mendez tweeted that she would definitely be leaving by May 20th. This either means the entire cast is "leaving", or she truly is the only one, or one cast member leaving.
If it stays, any ideas for replacements?

Posted: 5/2/12 at 3:29pmWhizzer and PlayItAgain, the joke changes/rotates/is improvised. I've heard Shake Weight, but the first time I saw it, it was Snuggie. When swings go on, I imagine some of the bits are different too since everyone's bits were created/shaped by the individual actors.

Davenport said...
"For Best Revival of a Musical, I went with my own, Godspell, instead of JCS. And frankly, I still think I was right, and I’m confused, concerned, and yeah, a little bit angry. Nope, scratch that, a whole lot angry. The creative team and the incredible cast on that stage deserved some recognition for the work they’ve done. And I’m disappointed that the tremendous number of people that supported that show won’t be able to root for it on Tony Night, but I’ll listen to the advice of the composer of Godspell and try not to let it “weeble” me."
If nominations were based on how much work put into each show, every show would be nominated....

Posted: 5/2/12 at 9:48pmHe's also heavily discounting tickets for May with a money back guarantee, claiming 9 out of 10 adore the show. Too bad he doesn't realize they don't like it enough to pay to see it.

Kenny D.'s predictions for Best Revival of a Musical:
Alright, well, this one is close to my heart, so lets hit it:
Evita
Follies
Porgy & Bess
And . . . honestly, I wouldnt be objective (which is such a big part of being a producer) if I didnt admit that the fourth spot was a battle between the two Jesus musicals. Godspell versus Jesus Christ Superstar. Godspell has been a bit neglected by the other Awards committees, which has me a bit confused and concerned for tomorrows announcement. But Superstar has been done before, and Andrew Lloyd Webber already has a show on the slate above. And, objectively again, I believe that the Godspell creative team deserves some kudos for their incredibly inventive updating of a forty year old musical. So, Im going to follow the advice that Mrs. Puccio gave to me my junior year of high school when I was running for Student Council Vice President (Dont be stupid. Vote for yourself!), and Im going to say . . .
Godspell
He's so funny! I bet Mrs. Puccio is impressed (not).

Saw it twice and both times I enjoyed it equally. The talent on that stage is ridiculous.
I hope the cast goes on to do bigger and better things. Especially Lindsay M. , Telly L. and George S.

From today's Kenny D.:
Now remember, unlike Tony Voters who vote for what they think is best (!), in my Tony Pool, you’re going after your own gold . . . La Pad de I. That means, you’re going to pick what you THINK will win, not what you WANT to win. For example, if I was entering, I wouldn’t be writing in Godspell on every line, even though I’m still thinking of staging some sort of Viva La Godspell revolution at the show in protest.
Poor Kenny D. , he doesn't know he's not even invited to attend to stage his revolution!

His humor comes from the pain of realizing he is behind this atrocious revival of a preachy, annoying, musical.
