I will believe it when I see it.
This is going to be a disaster & basically shows what is terribly wrong with Broadway.
Oh boy.
I wonder if Riedel is right about it opening in the summer.

This looks like it is going to be a mess. Has it been confirmed that the opening will be postponed until summer?

I think it's telling that it simply states that the show will open in 2010 without giving any specific dates....I also find it interesting that, although they have a new lead producer, they still don't have complete financing; so, this show could still go belly up before they start rehearsal....I was also intrigued by something the LA Times reported in their article today about the rights reverting back to Marvel if they don't open by a certain date -- that's something I had never seen reported anywhere before and certainly adds to the urgency of getting this show moving along quickly! Not sure how I feel about the Reeve Carney and Evan Rachel Wood casting -- can either of these 2 stand the rigors of 8 shows a week???
Just clicked through the CARNEY website and the guy at least has talent. Real nice groove, fantastic facial features, in-touch with music. I like his Williamsburg-ish looks.
I still deserve to know what "turn off the dark" means!
When the producers lose their shirts they can look back to this day when they could have pulled the plug & stopped the bloodletting. This will be a bloodbath for all concerned.
The critics will have a field day with this.
You look at this & the money being thrown at it & than think about the Brighton Beach tragedy.

1.Dark will refer to evil. Light will refer to opposite of evil
2.The dark = no light
3.Turning off the dark = turning off "no light"
4. Turning off "no light" = double negation of light (--light)
5. So Turning off the dark=--light
6.Since double negation can be eliminated in propositional logic, Turning off the dark=light
C: "Turning off the dark"=light, i.e. it is the opposite of evil/removing evil
I don't know why I posted this.
uh oh...this show is getting into more trouble...

It is a weird way of saying "Turn on the lights!"

Has anybody ever heard of this guy?

I still wonder if the show will open in time for Tony cutoff date. I doubt it will though.

I love the idea that they do a world-wide search to cast Peter Parker and end up "Discovering" a guy who is currently working with Julie Taymor.
Who cares? No offense to Reeve who I'm sure is thrilled (as any actor would be), but enough is enough. Shut the hell up about this show until you're loading in the set and are ready to let an audience in. Then and only then will I give a fart about this mess of what's not even a show yet.

LOL....I also love that they did this huge nationwide search and, WOW, look who they ended up with...a relatively inexperienced guy who just worked with Taymor on a film with no known stage experience....jeez....this has disaster written all over it...brings back fond memories of past disasters like Capeman, Lestat and Dance of the Vampires......you just know the NY critics (and Riedel) are just salivating over this!

Wow, I sure hope the program includes Cliffs Notes!
I've said it once and I'll say it again.
I hate U2 but the score is quite good. Seriously.
And George Tsypin is my favorite set designer, have you SEEN his RINGS? Holy crap! Also with Eishioka, some of my favorite film costumes are her Oscar-winning work in DRACULA.
But the score is good. For whatever that's worth.
P
So I guess it follows that you've obviously heard it?
Maybe they should release a concept album as an actual U2 Album (I mean not performed by them, but clearly branded U2 or something so people buy it), they can use the sales to fund the production+public interest in the production.

over $1 million a week?
It's better than any new score currently on Broadway (not counting revivals of course). For whatever that's worth.
P
Yeah, I guess that's not worth much so far.

This article from the LA Times is a must-read. (Well, except for whoever it was that wants them to stfu until load in.) The LA Times read the script AND heard the score. A collapsing Bridge? Five Spidermen-including one swinging out to the balcony? A primo u2 score? You know, Four years of $1M a week gross isn't unimaginable- Wicked's done it for 6 years and spun off, what 6 productions?
LA Times
The opening bridge scene is followed closely by the arrival of a giant web woven by Arachne, a temptress who is the musical's central invention. "A giant loom is revealed -- seven actors swing on vertical silks to form a tapestry," the stage directions read.
Bwahaha, that sounds so GOOD! I wouldn't miss that for anything.
But they're still using the wheelies, right?
