SUNDAY... Post Your Thoughts & Opinions

Hey Guys -

I know there's a "Welcome SITPWG" thread floundering about somewhere on here, but I felt it only right to start a fresh one for tonight's first preivew performance and/or other future performances of the Sondheim masterwork. So, for any and all there this or any other evening thereafter, please, please, please, enlighten us all with your comments, thoughts and opinions 'cause yeah, they'd be GREATLY appreceiated by this fella (and others, I'm sure to be believed).

Above all else, ENJOY! SUNDAY... Post Your Thoughts & Opinions

Best,
- Mike

I wish I had a dollar for every time I've said, "I'm so excited for Sunday!" in reference to the show, and the response has been, "What's on Sunday?"
A work of art is an invitation to love.

Title's been edited to benefit everyone.

For those who've seen the show already, (ie: our friends across the pond), what are *your* thoughts, and are any making the trip over here to see it again?

LimelightMike, I saw it three times in London, and loved it so much. I wish I was able to get over to see the production in New York, but I can't get over until June sadly. I'm sure Jenna and Daniel will be just as wonderful as they were here, and I can't wait for all your reviews. re: SUNDAY... -01.25.08: Post Your Thoughts & Opinions Here

I can see the stage door of Studio 54 from my apt window and the show is over..let the reviews begin!

(God bless you all out there in the freeeeeezing cold...I hope the actors appreciate it.)

Minimal detail review:

Act 2 stole the whole show.

Phenomenal cast...the leads were great, as expected, but the company as a whole was truly phenomenal.

PUTTING IT TOGETHER looked and sounded amazing!

Projection worked VERY well, especially in that space.

Sorry I dont have very many details...it's been a long day.

For those of you who are debating seeing it, it's worth it.

EDIT: BEAUTIFUL was pure brilliance. I love Ms. Bryne, however, in this production I interpreted it in a whole new way and was blown away.

It's among the most brilliant revivals of any musical I have ever seen, done with utmost care, passion and precision. That said, the show is still a rough slog. Audiences don't care about artists' problems and for good reason. Would YOU be interested in watching a musical about how a computer geek constructs a program or what cleaning solutions a maid uses to scour a tub? Surely not. It's hard to care. A brilliant revival of an airless show.

a masterpiece. the show, the performances, the sets, the lighting...all incredible. it will get across the board rave reviews and daniel and jenna should both win tony awards for their performances. the cast is all thrilled to be a part of this production...they were all sweet as could be at the stage door. i will definitely see this again.

It's among the most brilliant revivals of any musical I have ever seen, done with utmost care, passion and precision. That said, the show is still a rough, often tedious slog with no second act and pretentious beyond belief.

That was a fantastic switch right there, Mr. Hunter.

"So what did you think?"
"Oh, it was brilliant! So passionate, the cast was great, I could go on! But it sucks, don't go see it!"

it will get across the board rave reviews

I doubt it. The show is flawed, and someone's going to have to mention it, no matter how brilliant the revival.

Brantley'll probably go into an orgasmic coma over it, though.
"Y'know, I think Bertolt Brecht was rolling in his grave."

Loved it.
As much as I already loved the show (both acts, and yes all the "art" talk included) it really kicked it up a notch.
The projected sets, which I have ranted against in every other show I've seen them used for, were spot on perfect.

The whole thing was so creatively inter cut with the real set, the virtual set, the actors, the score, and the painting all coming together into one seamless and unbeatable piece.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.
