Sara starts tonight!!! I can't wait to hear how she is. I'm hoping to see her towards the end of her run, so I'm going to live for reviews until then. Anyone going tonight or soon?
This show's marketing people know exactly what they're doing. Great campaigns, beautiful artwork/designs, and (as someone else said) putting Sara Bareilles in for a crowded spring season ensures that the piece will not only survive it, but thrive in it.
The new marquee has removed Jessie but has Sara listed as composer.... I assume so they don't need to change it again when Sara leaves. They had not changed the posters outside the theater yet when I walked by yesterday.
Yes there will be Sara magnets and some other new merchandise with the elimination of some older merch as well.
So Bareilles has no prior acting experience aside from a single bit as Ariel in the recent Hollywood Bowl concert of Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID? She's playing a Tony Award nominated role originated by Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller. That's ambitious. I totally validate the stunt casting for all the obvious reasons but seriously. Good luck to the cast having to work harder than usual for the next 10 weeks. I hope they're being compensated for this. I'm seeing her in the show so I'm a supporter so I'm keeping an open-mind to the post-performance word of mouth later tonight.

It sure doesn't sound like you're keeping an open mind.
I'm hoping for the best but just presenting the facts: she has no prior acting experience in any form yet taking over a heavy lead role. She'll sound simply breathtaking singing her own material but there are heavy book scenes that require quite a bit of acting experience. Jessie and the other actresses who've played Jenna have this experience. Fact: Sara does not.

I'll be there tonight! Will let you know. Very excited!
Agree with the above! I had no doubts she could nail the comedy of Jenna as she is a naturally charming, funny being but she truly is not a bad actress. Vocally, she's hitting it out of the theatre ? you could tell for all of 30 seconds she was nervous but she truly has let loose. One of my favorite parts was seeing her trying to hide a huge smile after Caitlin Houlahan finished "When He Sees Me." It must be magical to be on stage with this cast and seeing your work come to life. Again, she sounds incredible!
I already know the answer to this, but are there any discount codes while Sara is still there. Otherwise, I am secretly hoping for it to show up on TKTS on a random weekday.

She has done theatre. Maybe not professional but she did local theatre. She talked about it in an interview this past week. So she has been on a stage. She did say that she is nervous taking on this role.
Not to mention that Sara (AND the creative team on this show, neigh the producers) strikes me as the type of artist(s) who would not compromise the material if she/they didn't feel appropriate or prepared enough to take on the role.
