Saycon ROCKED the HOUSE!!

Saycon went on tonight and from what I've heard, had an astonishing performance. Anyone see the show Sep 7 and have a review?

re: Saycon ROCKED the HOUSE!!

Saycon is amazing, I'd be okay with it if she took over for Shoshana. I love Shoshana, and I believe she is going to be a hard Elphaba to top, but Saycon is very good!

re: Saycon ROCKED the HOUSE!!

My family friends saw Saycon and said she was far superior to Shoshana on every level and they didn't understand why Shosh wasnt the standby and Saycon wasnt Elphaba. They said her 'Wizard and I' was chilling as was her 'DG' but her 'No Good Deed' was beyond amazing. Which is hard for me to understand because I saw Shosh on Jan. 9th and liked her very much (certianly not as much as Idina) but she was good and there were probably more things I didnt like about her performance than I did but I tried to emphasize that it was a big night for her and she was probably just beginning to get her toes wet with the role so I put a lot of emphasis on the good as opposed to the bad. Her 'No Good Deed' was phenomenal, though. Far superior to Idina's so I gave her major props for picking it up even though it was a bit late to do so. I cant imagine Saycon's NGD being better but I havent seen her so I cant judge. Anyway, the moral is they saw it and LOVED LOVED LOVED Saycon.

Wow, I really like Saycon, but before, all I've heard is negative. I'm glad that more people like her because I think she's astounding. Her "Defying Gravity" stands out to me from the others.

i agree, its refreshing to hear some 'pro saycon' comments on this board, i have never seen her but these mixed reviews have gotten me so curious!

re: Saycon ROCKED the HOUSE!!

I wonder if she is going to take over the role as Elphaba....cause she's not going to be in "The Color Purple" on Broadway. If she does get to take over the role GREAT for her...she phenominal.

re: Saycon ROCKED the HOUSE!!

Yay, I'm so glad to hear this. I got her when she hadn't been on too many times, but she was very, very good. She didn't seem to have the spark that Sho did, but that was probably the whole "3rd or 4th time on" thing.

Am I the only person on here who loves Shoshana? She, Idina, and Stephanie make up my Elphaba Holy Trinity.

re: Saycon ROCKED the HOUSE!!

Saycon is a wonderful Elphaba. In my opinion, she's no Idina but she's much, MUCH more enjoyable to watch and listen to than Shoshana.

re: Saycon ROCKED the HOUSE!!

I caught Saycon in a performance in late July. She was INCREDIBLE when she was belting...but when she wasn't belting, she sounded very monotone..re: Saycon ROCKED the HOUSE!!

She definitely wasn't bad though re: Saycon ROCKED the HOUSE!!

YOU GUYS ARE MY NEW BEST FRIENDS!!! I've been trying to get people to warm up to Saycon FOREVER!! Her belt is one of the most pure resounding sound I've ever heard! She knocks it out of the park, I only go see the show when I know she's going on because Shosh is just terrible and I can't wait for her to get her croaking ass off of that stage! GO SAYCON!!!

wow. watch it.

if you have one quater of shoshana's talent, you can comment. if not...

shut up
"...But Kungurtseva reels off multiple fouettes and the tape is stopped so she can take a bow. The Jester, an abomination introduced to Swan Lake in Soviet times, extorts applause from the audience. The cuts don't help the storytelling, the production is bare bones and they go for the '50s-style happy ending. The audience cheers like mad at the end. It's the Russian ballet, after all..."

re: Saycon ROCKED the HOUSE!!

I'm really curious to see Saycon as Elphaba also. I love Shoshana in the role, but after seeing Ana Gasteyer in Chicago this past weekend, Sho has fallen to number 3 on my list of favortie Elphaba's.

re: Saycon ROCKED the HOUSE!!

I saw Saycon in April and loved her as well. I dunno, so far I haven't seen an Elphaba I haven't liked, they all just bring different interpretations to the role. Shoshana emphasizes the more innocent and wanting to have friends and fit in side of Elphie and Saycon definitely emphasizes the stronger independent side, and Idina was somewhere in the middle.
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli

"if you have one quater of shoshana's talent, you can comment. if not...

shut up"

Well, no. We all comment on performances we see here all the time, and I'm many people here aren't actors and don't pretend to be. I know I'm not, and I certainly have commented on performances I've disliked. As a paying audience member, someone who has possibly paid $100 for 2 and a half hours entertainment, I believe you are entitled to offer commentary and your opinion of the performance you saw. If you disliked the performance, why can't you say so? This is true for anyone who chooses to make their living in the public eye. As an example, I'm a Mets fan and after last night want to strangle Braden Looper. I think he's awful, but could I do better? No. But I'm still gonna say I think he sucks.

If someone disliked Shoshana (or Saycon, or Idina, or Stephanie, or Eden, or whoever), they're perfectly allowed to say that. It doesn't matter how much talent they have- they paid to see the performance.
