Having seen this in London, I’m surprised this is coming over. It’s a fine show, but not anywhere near as good as his other stuff, especially Bees.

Love the music. A friend saw it at the Globe and got a tee shirt for me.
Article says it is going to 59E59. I am assuming it will be a really scaled down production.

Hopefully they did a lot of work on it in the last decade or so.

Ugh. From a theatre perspective, he is a definite one-hit wonder, and I'm amazed his new stuff keeps getting produced at the clip it does. Alice and Bees were both garbage IMO.

I'll be there on the 18th! I haven't really seen any of Sheik's work, though I'm somewhat familiar with the music for Spring Awakening so I really don't know what to expect, but I'm interested in what Kyle Jarrow's been up to post-Spongebob.
Also, if you have IDNYC, the preview tickets are $20 which I was pleasantly surprised by.

Thanks for the reminder. I bought tickets the day they originally went on sale for the March 2020 run but then the return fell of my radar. Will be going tomorrow night.

I technically do but they never mailed it to me and after all the hassle of getting it, I just gave up.

I caught this show last night. In College I was a huge Spring Awakening fan and bought the Whisper House album and was obsessed with it. I never got out to see the Globe production and it was only a few years ago that I caught the show at The Other Palace. I found it disappointing there, but was happy to hear the score live.
I'm thrilled the show finally made its way to New York! I think this is the perfect venue for it, and the set design for this is excellent. It does a great job of conveying the claustrophobic nature of being in a lighthouse.
I still don't think the show fully works on the whole. There just isn't much drama in the core story and the book scenes don't play well with the score. The two almost feel separate. The cast is solid and do the score justice.
That said there is a lovely orchestra and hearing this score live is a treat. Most of the arrangements are great though I'm not keen with what they did with Play Your Part. Was take a bow ever really in the show as a curtain call? I've always loved that on the album, but it isn't really here and I can't remember if it was in London. That said listening to it again some of the lyrics don't really make sense to the story any more so I understand why it inst.
Even with the shows problems, its an interesting show and Its a cheap ticket so I'd recommend checking it out.
