I was so excited when I woke up to the email announcing this, I rushed to get tix. I’ve never seen the play live but think she’s PERFECT for this and can’t wait!

The play WAS cute and funny decades ago. I'm curious as to why any non-dinner theater would stage this.

Maybe because it's STILL cute and funny --- plus it's an excellent star vehicle??

That's good to hear. Your tips and hints for our last trip were greatly appreciated so your positive reaction to this announcement is enough for me to add it to the "must see list" for the upcoming trip. Also am seeing some great comments about the production of NEWSIES which finally made it to London and am hoping to catch that one, as well since they are booking thru April 2023.

In the hands of the right actor, I've always found the play to be a very enjoyable night of theatre.

I have seen only bits and pieces of Sheridan Smith in performance (on You Tube). But based on those bits and pieces, I would not pass up any opportunity to see her on stage in person.

In fact, Pauine Collins won a Tony award in its original production, beating out among others Joan Allen in the highly acclaimed production of The Heidi Chronicles. Whereas the recent-ish HC revival had critics saying that the play had dated badly, I don't think that will happen with SV...It is a slight, enjoyable one-person play, with a great role for its title character. I don't recall there being any message other than to live your life fully.

I remember when Helen Reddy played 'Shirley Valentine' at Theater-by-the-Sea (RI) back in the 90s. She got great reviews, and I recall the show was a sell-out. They wanted to extend it - but she couldn't longer than the three week engagement and they couldn't get another name to take her place (though they tried).

Is it? To each their own, I suppose. I don't think it's even nostalgic.
