re: Shoshana

"She really doesn't have anyting close to the best voice on Broadway. She is full of vocal tricks, runs, stylized vibrato. Her acting skills are limited, and from several accounts, she's a snob too. I like Wicked, I love the role of Elphaba, but Bean just doesn't do it for me. I haven't hated a performer this much since Susan Egan."

Amen! I couldn't agree more. I can't STAND the woman.

re: Shoshana

at least she is coming out to sign them. When we saw Wicked with Idina we didn't get to me her and when we saw Little Women Sutton didn't come out re: Shoshana maybe someday i'll be able to meet them. heres hoping!
I'm kind of a sweat pant, t-shirt, no make-up type of girl. So once a year, I can get spiffy. Sutton Foster :)

re: Shoshana

I seriously dont understand all the hype about her. And I don't understand why she is the full-time Elphaba when her understudy is 10 times better than her. Hopefully Eden will come back and kick her ass out of the role so that Wicked can have someone who can actually sing the songs the way they SHOULD be sung.

And another thing, if someone knows when Shoshy will be out, do post! Because when I hear of this I'm running over to the theater to get tickets.

re: Shoshana

Sho's voice does have tricks, vibratto, runs. That's a sign of control people. Idina just tarzan yodeled those last notes in Defying Gravity, screamed it even. Sho has a safe belt, a fast vibratto (a sign of minimal tension, a good vocal condition) and the ability to control her voice at such a high pitch as can be observed when she sings in Defying Gravity.

As for Eden, she does have a great voice but I must say it's a little inconsitent. The girl can belt, but then she can scream. Her tone also changes quality out of the blue which is a sign of no vocal training. Little known fact, Eden has never truly had vocal training.

Just my opinion. Sho is the best Elphaba atleast vocally that there could be.

re: Shoshana

I don't get this reasoning that bc you think she isn't good, she doesn't get to be a bitch. Even if you thought she was the greatest singer ever, would that really give her an excuse to be a snob? No! This is ridiculous reasoning, folks.

re: Shoshana

Well, she wasn't even on key when I saw her in Wicked.

re: Shoshana

Oh that is ridiculous and you know it. No broadway star (forgetting those put in for stunt casting) is "not even on key" in a show. You make it sound like she didn't sing a note correct and there is no way I'm buying it. Shoshana is a great musician and no one can deny her that. Even if they don't like her interpretation as Elphie, she has proven herself a very accomplished singer in her recordings of Home and some of her album songs.

re: Shoshana

then she should stick to singing that and not Wicked

re: Shoshana

She didn't. Most of it was off key. I am serious. If I liked her, I'd say it. I don't hate just to hate. I hate based on reasons, and BeanCurd has given me many. She's a screeching howler monkey, in my opinion.

Okay, okay. I've said what I wanted to and I'm moving on. To show some Bean Love, I'm changing my avatar.

re: Shoshana

I agree. Shoshana is terrific. I absolutely love her riffs, but I prefer Kristy Cate's more.."classical" approach. Kristy's coming to Chicago! Booyah!

re: Shoshana

Yup, ridiculous. In all the recordings I've heard of her. I have never once heard her off key.

Actually, I beg to differ. When I saw Julie Hanson as Christine, she was either sharp or flat the entire time.

ETA: Neo, being on pitch during a performance and being on pitch during a recording session is quite different.

Let me clarify. Recordings of her in Wicked. Not recordings on her album etc.

re: Shoshana

i dont see what is so 'special' about Shoshana Bean...

re: Shoshana

There are so many illegal recordings out there to show that Shoshana is consistantly on key.. This thread is hilarious!

Anyone w/ two ears can tell that Shoshana has an overwhelming amount of talent!
#43

re: Shoshana

Well, since she doesn't lip sync, I don't think my claim of her singing off key can be disproved. She's scary looking too.

re: Shoshana

I think she's a good vocalist. I've never seen her perform, so I can't comment on that. But I really do enjoy listening to her. I just happen to prefer Kristy's more "classical" approach, and I saw a performance from Kristy and her acting was pretty good, actually.
