re: Shoshana

Since when is Elphaba even supposed to be beautiful? Doesn't she say something or other about how she's not?

Guys, please remember that even though Shoshana has said she doesn't read these boards a lot of people in the community do. Why would you call her ugly when you know people who care about her could see these things? It's publicly picking on someone. This isn't a discussion on how she is as a performer. It's an opportunity for you to show hatred for someone you don't know and that's not fair. She is a person and odds are she will probably be made aware of what is said about her. This is why boards like this are so hated in the New York theatre community.

re: Shoshana

Exactly. People like this shouldn't be dealt with. I don't know why I bothered.

re: Shoshana

Let's see, Shoshana has been associated with 2 hit Broadway shows in the last 3 years. She must be doing something right.

re: Shoshana

Unfortunately it's human nature to judge on appearance. We all do regardless of whether we admit or not!!!! I don't think hse is ugly in the slightest but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and if someone doesn't think she's attractive it is wrong of you to try and alter or challange their oppinions!

Shshana- The girl can sing (amazingly or terribly), she's not a ugly but not Miss World... whether we love her or hate she's on Broadway doing the best she can... can we please leave it at that!

re: Shoshana

No one is trying to change anyone's opinion. But to publicly pick on someone is another obnoxious story.

re: Shoshana

Note to all board members and Shoshana fans : RIFFING DOES NOT MAKE A GOOD SINGER. Remember that!

Again I find it sickening that Shoshana Bean - who has a little fanbase, really isn't that big, and definetly not known outside of Broadway - can't stop to sign autographs and be friendly with fans. But a BIG star of TV & Film like Christina Applegates signs autographs and takes pictures with fans every day. Shoshana might need to realize that she is not on the level of popularity as some broadway stars especially Christina Applegate - what gives Shoshana the right to be rude at the stage door when she is really not that popular!?

Did that make sense?

re: Shoshana

Well...she might have her reasons. You never know. Joanna Gleason RARELY comes out to sign, but she's very shy and she does want to get home...Shoshana may have her reasons and it might be wrong of us to assume that she's just too arrogant to stop.

re: Shoshana

I know I said I was leaving this thread, but I have to stop the lies and rumors..

ljay, Shoshana comes out to sign playbills and pics, etc EVERYDAY, even for matinees! She's missed very few (3 tops) stage door appearences because she was sick, tired, etc!

Idina who originated the role very rarely came out the stagedoor, maybe once a week, and never towards the end of her run!

Shoshana SINGS the role of Elphaba, and adds a FEW riffs to make the role her own and to freshen up the the role of Elphaba. How many times have you seen her performance where you can judge, AND how many times have you seen her at the stage door NOT come out AND/OR BE RUDE?!@?!?!

Thats what I thouht.

re: Shoshana

Well I was going by what people were saying in this thread about Shoshana not signing and being rude to fans. One thing I will say - I had a feeling Shoshana was getting a big head - a couple months ago when she was writing on her site that she would NEVER come back to Broadway unless she got offered Funny Girl. I understand she wants to work on her recording career, and more power to her. But she made it seem like she can't wait to get away from Broadway.

Another thing I must say. I saw Idina Jan 4, one of her last performances. It was after the death threats! And the girl still came to sign regardless the HUGE AMOUNT OF ANNOYING TEEN GIRLS. Idina was a complete nervous wreck though, but I can't really blame her.

re: Shoshana

i too rarely post on this board but had to put in my 2cents. first of all, shoshana is a beautiful person both inside and out. and if you don't agree, that is fine but why is there a need to be cruel. state your opinion and move on.
#87

re: Shoshana

Idina came out because it was her last week. Shoshana comes out everyday. Idina rarely did. Shoshana is never rude to anyone at the stage door and makes sure everyone gets their stuff signed.

I don't recall her saying she would NEVER come back to Broadway unless it was in that role. I know that's a role she wants to play, but she doesn't want to be a Broadway star. She just wants to focus on her recording career. I'm sure if her recording career flops, she will come back to Broadway.

re: Shoshana

Back when Shosh had Q&A on her site. She made it very clear she has no plans to return to Bway after Wicked unless its Funny Girl.

Anyway, I think she is talented - and this thread is rather cruel. I stated my opinion in a mature way - unlike many others who rudely spoke about her.

I think this damn thread should be deleted. Now.

re: Shoshana

"Shoshana seems to think she's bigger than she is. I met her when she was a standby and she was really nice, then when she first took over and nice, but now she seems to think shes the best thing yet. she puts on a great dhow but her atitude changed alot since January and she needs to calm down."

Lemme guess, WickedGeek, you're an obsessive Idina fan? You spend all of 5 minutes in the presenece of Shoshana Bean and now you think you're the best judge of her character? God, mind your own business and talk use this board to talk about her career, not what you perceive her personality to be. Most of the other posts (even the immature ones) are legitimate opinions that are appropriate for this board, but you seem to think you're bigger than you are and you need to calm down.

ljay889, Christina Applegate is a stunt cast doing her first Broadway show, so comparing her popularity to Shoshana Bean is uneven and definitely not fair. Try using an actress that works solely on Broadway to develop their fanbase/popularity (and hasn't played Elphaba), and don't base your entire argument on hearsay and then maybe you'll make sense.

re: Shoshana

Orange honey,

Christina was not stunt casted. She auditioned for the role. She was the only "star" who auditioned that could pass the dance routine. The Weisslers were very impressed with her - so she got the job. It was her dream to be on Broadway. She was NOT stunt casted.

re: Shoshana

Lea Salonga- Played Kim- Bigger sing than Elphaba- More emotionally draining- more difficult show- one of the nicest people i've ever met in my life! Signs, takes photos no problem!

You can't blame a role for people not wanting to sign autographs etc. Personally, saying she will only come back to Broadway to do funny girl annoys the hell out of me! If her career flops she might come back to broadway... she should stay away then and give someone who'd dream it is to have a career on boradway a chance. I hate it when people say things like that and you know she'll be back if her career makes it.... AS A STUNT CAST!

re: Shoshana

Well from person experience, Shoshana is great at the door. I mean heck she came on on a Wednesday matinee to sign autographs in the cold. She took pictures (heck she had to pose with me twice cause the first one came out blurry), chatted a bit, and got through everyone. I was bummed that JLT didn't come out that day...I was informed that she usually doesn't do matinees. It's not in their contracts to sign playbills post show. However, this was back in the end of February...so unless she's changed in the last four months. But honestly think about 8 shows a week...and you have to sign autographs after you get out of green makeup?

re: Shoshana

shoshana took everything idina did with the character and threw it the gross pile of casserole she came from
#95

re: Shoshana

ljay darling,

Christina Applegate auditioned for the role and she may have been the best they had seen. But a few months ago, they were going to close the show when Christina got hurt, rather than let the understudy go on during previews. The producers believed that Sweet Charity would not survive without a big name starring in it. When producers rely on the name of a certain performer to sell their show, that's what I consider to be stunt casting.

Eh? This thread is actually quite interesting...

Sort of like the CCM thread, but...I suppose it's easier to fall to bias, however.

Skittle sweetie,

That is not what I consider stunt casting. So I guess we have different interpretations of the term. re: Shoshana

re: Shoshana

I think Shoshana is really talented in her own way.

To someone who said she was never rude to her fans...I was at the stagedoor today and talked with people who said they have said hi/have a great show and several times she has walked by them or gave them a nasty look.

Personally, I really like Shoshana. I am just saying that no one is there everyday to make a statement that she is ALWAYS this or ALWAYS that.
A dancer might dream to see her name in lights and mean it, but all she really dreams is to make someone else feel the way she did when she first saw a dancer. And that is so beautiful-Anonymous

re: Shoshana

again i have to say at least she comes out to sign playbills and take pcitures it is really dissapointing when you go see a show in the hopes to meet a specific person and then they don't come out re: Shoshana As far as how she is at the stage door i have no idea i have only seen Wicked once and it was with Idina and JLT.
