re: Shoshana

ljay dear,

Just curious (seriously), what is your interpretation of the term stunt cast? I just want to know how others might understand it.

re: Shoshana

Shoshana Bean is a human being. We all have our off days. It's not like anyone here actually knows Shoshana or visits her at the stage door on a regular basis. (Well in that case I might give you a dirty look too. :P) Exactly what musicalfans said...we can't just go and say so-and-so is always this or that. Geeeez.

Talent-wise...when I saw her she seemed a little bit awkward on stage at certain points. Maybe it was just an off day or whatever. She kicked ass in No Good Deed.

re: Shoshana

Skittle babe,

My interpretation of stunt casting is when producers pick any old star to lead one of their shows to bring up the sales. The Weisslers are prime examples of this. I consider it when a star dosen't audition for the role, but when producers specifically ask them to do the show.

re: Shoshana

Plaese let me clear this up. I did not want this to turn into a bashing thread. That is upsetting that it did. I am a big Shoshana fan and just asked a question if you think she is too big to be a standby again. Why does this have to happen?

re: Shoshana

There's always controversy when one brings up W-cked...especially when mentioning/worshiping Idina and Shoshana. It's rather amusing how this board as a whole reacts.

re: Shoshana

About Christina in Sweet Charity- ok, maybe she passed the dance audition...did they bother seeing if she could sing in tune?? It is very much stunt casting. She would NEVER had gotten the role had she not already been famous.

re: Shoshana

Christina sang the whole show in tune when I saw her.. re: Shoshana Maybe you should hear your girl Idina sometimes? I'm a fan, but I have many clips where she is definetly not in tune.

Anyway, the role of Charity does not call for a great singer. It was written for a fabulous comedic actress - and this is exactly what Christina is. Sure Charity dances 3 or 4 times in the show, and she sings a few songs - it really calls for a great actress, and Christina nails the acting - and does a fine job with the singing and dancing!

re: Shoshana

Here's my 2 cents about Shoshana.

Shoshana doesn't have to do the riffs to sound good. Did you know that there is also an amazing legit soprano lurking behind them? Have you ever heard he sing "My Funny Valentine" completely stripped of all the melisma? It is beautiful and pure. She riffs because that is who she is. If she didn't, she wouldn't be Shoshana Bean. Plain and simple. She knows who she is, and doesn't mold into the kind of performer that everyone wants her to be. That's what I respect about her.

Yes, riffs don't always mean a good vocalist, but they don't always mean a bad one either. You just never know unless you've heard it.
