The thing is that most people fight with problems that are much bigger than themselves, whether it's mundanity, lack of purpose, emotional scarring and financial problems. We all put on masks of indifference, elitism and spite to survive each day, and when we come home we find ourselves unable to take these masks off. Then what started as a good intention; discussing topics of mutual interest with other people, turns into mean spirited remarks and thoughtless putdowns. It's not just you it happens to, it's everyone. You haven't done anything wrong, so ignore what they say and treat people the way you want to be treated. It's a problem we all have.
Mermaid, Lion King, Mary Poppins and Jersey Boys aren't going anywhere.
MERMAID is not a sell out. It's not doing amazing.
Didn't say it was a sell out. Just said the facts which are, in my humble opinion, pretty amazing for a show that is so univerally loathed on these boards.
Most of these are gross overestimations.
That was a general statement. Not towards you Robert.
who the hell does this kid think he is? Michael Reidel?
In The Heights will have a long run!
Wicked's heat won't last much longer
Chicago will go just after Rent
Jersey Boys isn't going any where
Neither is Lion King

This is kind of ridiculous. I mean, it's great you are giving your opinion... but you invariably just stated that every show on Broadway is going to close within the next couple of years. Yes, shows close... but it is not going to happen with every one of them. And plus, a lot will be determined by how the summer flies anyway, since obviously it is a popular time for people to watch shows. You can typically see shows dwindling down in sales, but .... I feel like you just wanted to say that Wicked is going to be alive for at least 20 years, and the rest you picked dates out of the sky. To each his own, but ... since you are stating your opinions, so are we.

To the original poster,
You clearly haven't the faintest idea about how this business works based on your predictions.
Best,
Clark
All shows eventually close. I did not pick dates randomly. I did it based on how long I thought each show would run for. Based on my predictions. It would be:
Passing Strange - 10 months
A Catered Affair - 10 months
In the Heights- 1 year
South Pacific - 1 year
Xanadu - 2 years
The Little Mermaid - Short of 2 years
Grease - 2 1/2 years
Legally Blonde - Almost 3 years
Spring Awakening - Just above 3 years
Gypsy - Just over 3 years
Mary Poppins - Short of 4 years
Avenue Q - Just above 7 years
Jersey Boys - Just short of 5 years
Hairspray - Short of 9 years
Chicago - Almost 15 years
The Lion King - Around 14 years
Mamma Mia - 10 years
Those all sound about right, except for maybe the Disneys lasting longer (1-2 years, than I put).
WHO ARE YOU??? ARE YOU BRYAN WITH A DIFFERENT USERNAME?
Seriously though. First you ask why AVENUE Q beat out WICKED for "Best Musical", and then you say WICKED will run for 20 years.
I really hope you're doing this as a joke.
I honestly don't understand how ****ing stupid some people can be.
myshikobit - oh shush. how old are you? grow up first, then I would be happy to have an extremely mature and intelligent conversation with you about "masks" and "elitism"
I feel like I'm on a board full of my children's elementary school friends.
Musicaltheatrefan, you just need to learn how to use common sense. It's really not a challenging concept.
Having an opinion is one thing. Being a total jackass is something entirely different.
And besides, your predictions are absolutely ridiculous and there is no substantial evidence to support these ludacris claims. Ugh.
This kid gets more idiotic by EVERY post.
Well said, TDH. Well said.
I think if shows like "In the Heights", "Legally Blonde" and "Grease" move to smaller venues, they have a chance at a longer shelflife, but I'm not sure how often this happens...I'm kind of a newbie.
"Why is everyone on here so mean to me?"
Because you are as annoying as hell and make idiotic posts. If you actually took part in some intelligent discussion, no one would be mean to you. Just go away and spare yourself the humiliation. BWW has had its fair share of sock puppets.

You should look into your crystal ball and tell us what these shows will get replaced by.

Of course to you, they would sound all about right...
they are YOUR predictions.
and clearly, they are all random numbers from the sky.
Eh, and you forgot ... wicked for 20 years!! yeah!!
Come on, there are definitely Wicked fans on this board, but this is ridiculous. If you make better posts maybe people would take you more seriously.
Im pretty sure Patti will close Gypsy. It wont run for 3 years.

TooDarnHot, it can't be Bryan because if you'll remember, bryan's spelling and grammar sucks.
I'm going to start saving musicaltheatrefan3's posts so we can decide which is the most idiotic.
blaxx: How can a show like Wicked lose Best Musical to a show with puppets?
I see a LuPwning in my crystal ball.
and what do you know it came true.
LuPwned!
Why would this production be the longest Broadway run of Gypsy ever?
Again, the "LUPWNED!! LOLZ!!" thing isn't funny anymore.
