Shows Closing.. really dissapppointeeeeed !

I'm going to new york on the 17th of January and was planning on seeing MANY shows..now only 6 are on my list... wanted to see next to normal, in the heights, promises promises, scottsboro boys, rock of ages (which I just read it might be closing??!!! ) i'm sooo sad! i've been waiting to go to new york for YEARS..and now there's barely anything to see at that time! (i live in London so half of the musicals i've already seen)... Is there any chance any of this one will extend for a few more weeks????

And if someone has any recommendation of any other off Broadway musical or something please tell me as now i will have lots of free time Shows Closing.. really dissapppointeeeeed !

I haven't been in a while so I haven't seen anything new off-Broadway. But "Fuerzabruta" is still running. I saw that and had a lot of fun. Wear comfortable shoes if you go.

January is traditionally a tough month for Broadway, and many shows close as early as January 2 when the new year arrives.

If BRIEF ENCOUNTER is open when you arrive, I strongly recommend it if you didn't catch it in the UK.

Also check out PLAYS! There are many non-musical plays which are quite good. Go see ANGELS IN AMERICA at Signature Theater Company. That will take up 7 hours of your free time which will end up being the highlight of your theatre-attending years thus far. ANGELS OF AMERICA is literally the best decision of a show that you could possibly make while here in the States.

If THE MERCHANT OF VENICE is still running, catch that, too.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

January is always a tough month for B'way shows. Lots of shows close and very little new has/is opening.

What to see?
Memphis (I didn't love it, but many do.)
Chicago
Spiderman (not with a personal reccommendation, I haven't seen it yet)
American Idiot (with Billie Joe Armstrong)
The Addams Family
Importance of Being Earnest (not sure of the closing date on that)

Yup. Not much of a list at all. (Next time come over in May...GADS of shows available!)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I'll put in another mention for Fuerzabruta...a delight in performance art.

OH, and another off b'way show: Avenue Q

I second or third, Angels In America. Any person that loves theatre should see this done on stage at least 5 times in thier lifetime.

Addams Family, I loved this show, had a great time.

La Cage.
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

If you need six shows, I recommend La Cage, American Idiot, Fuerza Bruta, Billy Elliot, Spider-Man and The Divine Sister. If you can get into Angels in America, all the better.

Fuerzabruta has been metioned a few times but I assume from Elpha's second post, he/she has already seen it in Argentina.

Others have offered some great show suggestions, but I'd also encourage you to cast a wider net and see if some other performing arts events catch your eye: Lincoln Center, BAM, Joe's Pub, Joyce for dance, Carnegie Hall, etc. You might not find anything that you like, but it's worth a few quick online searches.
