Cry-Baby wasn't recorded for anything other than the demo.
There were studio cast albums of Ari & Angel & neither ever saw the light of day
I have them on cassettes (remember them) & I have to get the device that lets you put LP'S & Tapes on CD

It makes me SO sad that Lestat has no cast album.
I have an 18 track demo recording of LESTAT which is wonderful. The complete score, beautifully sung by Elton John & unnamed singers should have been released to the public despite the failure of the show. LESTAT features some of Elton John & Bernie Taupin's best songs, which separated from the mediocre show, is a quite enjoyable listening experience.
There was a full recording done by the Australian cast of "Jesus Christ Superstar" which was also filmed and due to be released just before the final show. This has never seen the light of day.

The London cast album of MAME with Ginger Rogers
Isn't there a studio recording of ANYONE CAN WHISTLE?
Yes, ljay, JAY has complete recordings of not only ANYONE CAN WHISTLE starring Julia MacKenzie, Maria Friedman and John Barrowman but also ONE TOUCH OF VENUS starring Melissa Errico in their vaults collecting dust (going on 10 years now).
Wasn't 1600 PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE recorded in a studio out of town but Bernstein thwarted the release?

It's too bad some of these can't go the route the producers of The Capeman went and at least do a digital release. This lets fans have it without all the associated production costs of a physical CD release.

In 1947, a show called Bonanza Bound (with book and lyrics by Comden and Green) opened out of town in Philadelphia and closed there a month later. However, it sticks in the craw of my mind that it was actually recorded commercially. although never released. Anyone else hear about this?

Are the recordings from the OBC available or are the digitals just the concept album?

JAY is notorious for this. Their revised "Seussical" (starring Shorey Walker) has been in the can for years.
This is the first time I ever heard there was a London original cast recording of MAME with Rogers. Do you have anymore info on it Dollypop? As to what label recorded it and why it was never released? Thanks.

^ My guess would be Columbia. I know Rogers was not pleased with how she sounded.
Yes, Ed. RCA Victor did an album of BONANZA BOUND but when the show closed the records were never released. In the 1970's JJA released an LP transfer.

I've never heard that Ginger Rogers in DOLLY was recorded, either. What's up with that?
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Goth, the OBC of The Capeman was made available on iTunes in the summer of 2006. The concept album is also there.
There is a pro recording of 6 songs from Lestat sung by the original cast of actors which is *cough*....floating around, and yes it includes Carolee's "Crimson Kiss," and Allison Fischer's "I Want More."
Frank Wildhorn's CYRANO de BERGERAC was also recorded with the intention of release (however, nearly all of his demos are release-quality), but wasn't released after the DRACULA, the musical Concept fiasco. In fact, they didn't even release who was supposed to be on it (Sills, Eder & Evan!).

The first thing I thought of was that long lost Anyone Can Whistle album. I was really looking forward to it. In like 1999.
PRS - you and me both!
I remember speaking to John about it after PUTTING IT TOGETHER in, what, 2001?
I intentionally DO NOT purchase JAY cds because obviously any company that finds PENDRAGON releasable but NOT the first recording of a complete Sondheim score - no matter WHAT the circumstances, it's been 10 fvcking years - just doesn't make any sense to me.
In the digital age there is simply no excuse and if you can't get the album mixed over the course of 10 years, you're never gonna get it mixed!
