Shows Without ANY Reprises!#1
Posted: 6/23/11 at 5:26pmI was just wondering if there is actually a musical that doesn't contain a reprise, even if the title is different! Anyone know of any musicals without one?

The Book of Mormon technically doesn't thought songs are sang again at the end of "Man Up"

Posted: 6/23/11 at 5:35pmThe Book of Mormon has "Hello" (Reprise), but it is on the same track as "Tomorrow Is a Latter Day" on the OBCR.

Posted: 6/23/11 at 5:38pmWell, Book of Mormon has several reprises. It has Nabalungi's reprise of "Hasa Diga Eebowai" after "Joseph Smith American Moses", not to mention a short reprise of "I'll Be Here for You" at the start of "Tomorrow is a Latter Day" (that song also includes a reprise of "I Believe"). The "Orlando" theme is also reprised in Act 2 before "Joseph Smith American Moses".

Posted: 6/23/11 at 6:12pmI was going to say tick, tick... boom, but I think there's a reprise of 30/90 in the actual show. They just didn't record it.

Bloody Bloody has "I'm Not That Guy" and "I'm SO That Guy".
The latter of which reprises "Populism Yeah Yeah".

sorry chewy,
Anyone Can Whistle reprises its title tune when Fay tries to whistle for Hapgood and fails.
Deamgirls reprises ITS title tune 2 or 3 times.
Follies has no title tune and you are correct until the last seconds of the show. But a reprise of "Hey Up There..." ends the show.

Anyone Can Whistle also has a reprise of "I've Got You to Lean On." It's just usually not listed.
Follies would be one if it weren't for the finale.

Ah yes.
RE Follies: That doesn't count. Although you potentially could disqualify it due to all the underscoring.

Posted: 6/24/11 at 6:44amIt seems Sondheim does motifs more than reprises - fragments of melody that connect moments in the show. I'm thinking of With So Little To Be Sure Of in Anyone Can Whistle, which opens with a couple of instrumental bars from Play Wiz Me - reminding us of a happier time.

Posted: 6/24/11 at 7:01pmWonderland had a reprise of "Home" in the actual Broadway show that was in the same place "Heroes" is on the recording.

"Jersey Boys" has a brief reprise of "Walk Like a Man" at the end of the first act, and several reprises of "Oh, What a Night" if I remember correctly. Didn't care for the show.
"Pacific Overtures" and "... Charlie Brown" are the only two that immediately come to mind. I'll think on this though! It's a good question!
