Posted: 2/3/08 at 10:43pmWould Super Bowl fans really have a large crossover with theatre fans? Maybe the answer will surprise me.

The orchestra at Spamalot was pretty full. I didn't have a view of the mezzanine.
As soon as people left the theater, I heard lots of people on their cell phones asking for score updates, so there is definitely a slight crossover, although it might be just Monty Python.

Spring Awakening cancelled their show this evening, and did a matinee this past Wednesday.
They've also cancelled their Sunday night show the night of the Oscars, and Memorial Day weekend.
I imagine there is more crossover than you think, especially this year with the Giants, a local team, playing. I certainly wasn't seeing any shows tonight. Lots of people who aren't football fans watch the game because it's an "event." People want to talk to their colleagues at work tomorrow morning and not feel left out.
But I generally dislike the assumption that theater fans aren't sports fans. Why can't you love both (as I do)???
I remember one interesting incident the night I was at a Linda Eder concert...the Yankees were playing the Red Sox in the first game of the ALCS, and after every song, the keyboard player would update the audience on the score. It was very funny, and the audience appreciated it.

Posted: 2/4/08 at 2:17pmCape Twirl of Doom, To answer your question: my 2 passions are Broadway and football (mostly college, but I like the NFL at playoff time), so yeah, there is some crossover. Granted, I'm probably not a typical example, lol.
