We saw it today & throughly enjoyed it.

Every aspect was superb. The sets were outstanding as was the rest of the production. The score , which has gotten some licks here, was very good. The leads were great as were the rest of the ensemble. The book was very good & many of the jokes were for adults.

We can really recommend it.

I think most people who bash it mindlessly here are really just biased against the title.

Any crying babies or rabid foreigners?

It's such a shame that so many people don't mention Johnny Tartaglia, he is so underused, and not many people know he is doing the Magic Mirror live, and inside the dragon head for the first act.

It seems that the key to enjoying SHREK is to make sure you aren't seated around any Portugese tourists.

I'm so happy to see this thread. I saw SHREK last Friday and absolutely loved it. Please theater gods, let this one last!!! Having wasted time and money on other big children's productions like MERMAID and YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN I found SHREK to be genuinely fun, campy, irreverent . . . and at times, even moving.

I will say, however, that noisy tourists and children could make the experience painful. I changed seats twice -- once a the beginning of the show and then after intermission -- to avoid sitting around those types. Luckily, there were plenty of empty seats to choose from. (!)

But yeah, the show was great. Sutton Foster has never been better. The set and costumes are amazing. The humor is much needed in today's world.

Long story short, it's really, really good.

Period.

I really enjoyed it in Seattle and saw the show and rehearsals multiple times...It isn't perfect but it makes for an enjoyable night out with great talent both onstage and off.

Is the CD on sale at the theatre yet or are they not planning on selling it early?

Cats, I was there last Tuesday and they didn't have CDs on sale yet. I would expect them near the end of the month.

Curtain Puller Downer--I'll mention John Tartaglia. Put yourself in the wayback machine and think back a couple of years ago when my daughter and I were trying to get in touch with him to deliver a scrapbook.

Well, she finally met him at KNOB last week and my God, what a nice guy. They actually had a nice little conversation, two actually, and he said he remembered the scrapbook.

Still doesn't make me a fan of "Shrek"--he was out the day I saw it, but he really left a lasting impression with her. She was beside herself happy.

I was starting to think that I was the only person who enjoyed Shrek!

Completely agree re: John T. being underused. What a disappointment. Other than that, the only thing I truly didn't like was the way the dragon was set up. Even as an adult, it took me a second to figure out what they were doing with the Greek chorus & bizarre tail, so I imagine kids were completely confused.

So, go Shrek

This hopefully means it will stick around long enough for me to see it re: Shrek Was Great
I kind of like stuff like this in theater, since it is visually a treat...

My only wish was that they could have kept the Robin Hood song, fight, and whole "arrow in your butt" scene. They could have had it before "I Think I Got You Beat", and casted John Tartaglia as Robin Hood.

I agree, Shrek is a wonderful show for children of all ages (providing they know how to behave properly in the theatre). I walked out singing "Get Your Freak Flag On" and was totally uplifted by the whole experience. The cast and creative team are truly amazing and this show should not be missed by anybody who wants to laugh and enjoy a funny, smart, tuneful, heartfelt, self-aware and magical Broadway show.
