Posted: 6/12/09 at 2:44pmI would like to see God of Carnage, hopefully getting SRO tickets. Other members of my party want to try and win the lotto for Shrek. Which is the better show? Please give reasons. And which do I have a better shot at getting? Thank You

Posted: 6/12/09 at 2:55pmI did not enjoy Shrek ***AT ALL*** and I'm usually pretty easy to please. I would tell your friends to have fun and the lottery and then you go see something else.

Apples and Oranges. People who are in the mood to see Shrek will not care for God Of Carnage and vice versa. Maybe you all should split up and meet after.
I loved God of Carnage but it is not for all tastes, particularly those chomping at the bit to see Dreck, I mean, Shrek.

If you like arcades and theme park rides with lots of external noise...see Shrek. If you like your belly laughs with a little more of a cerebral challenge...God of Carnage.
But you'll have a much better shot at Shrek if you don't rely on the lotto and head to TKTS.

A lot of people on this board seem to hate Shrek for some reason, and while it is not perfect, it's certainly an excellent crowd pleaser, and has an amazingly talented cast of well known musical theatre actors. I certainly enjoyed it very much and would recommend it highly, particularly if your group has a wide range of ages.
I haven't seen GoC, but from what I've seen it's not a brilliant piece of writing, but it's a whole lotta fun to see those big names tear into each other. It's also very short and fast, so you'll be out on the street within 90 minutes, max.
Both shows are kind of similar in that the popular consensus seems to be that the cast elevates the material into being much better than it is by itself. I think you should try your luck and the Shrek lotto (since it's so early) and leave GoC as a backup, although they only sell standing room if they're sold out, so you may not be able to get cheap tickets there. If you fail on both, but still want to see one of those two shows, you can get rush tickets at Shrek (assuming you have students in your group, although I'm not sure if it's one per ID), or pick up tickets at TKTS.

I have seen both, and I have liked both. However, which is the better show? Shrek! I know that people on this board don't like it, but they are crazy! Brian D'arcy James's performance is not to be missed... No actor on broadway right now is as wonderfully charming as this man...His voice is also to die for. THERE I SAID IT! Go see Shrek it is WAY WORTH IT...
GOC is good, but if you miss it, its not big deal. Its not one of those shows that is a must see. I like the Norman Conquests and August way better.
Just Shrek over GOC anyday...

My party of five (including THREE under the age of 12) did not care for Shrek. Neither did NPH. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It's not the worst thing I've seen -- and I wouldn't go so far as to say I hated it. But I had NO feeling about it. And was pretty damn bored in ACT II. (Both of my kids put it EASLILY in 3rd place of the three shows we saw on that trip.)
I saw GofC as well. I like that a lot. The humor is quite intelligent (mostly) and there is a chemistry that is wonderful.
Between the two: G0fC without a second thought.

Posted: 6/12/09 at 6:53pmI've seen both and I say God of Carnage all the way. The performances are fabulous and it's a hilarious play. Shrek is fun, but it's nothing special.

I don't hate Shrek, but I'm sure like many you would be angered to pay to see the same thing you could see in a movie. It's fun though and I'm sure that ridiculous lotto can't be too busy?
But, you can not miss God of Carnage. So I think that's my answer.
