The first time I saw the show was right after it opened. The entire cast for the most part came out and made sure to sign every Playbill and take every picture. When I went back a few weeks ago Sierra did come out and sign, but she had a car waiting, and it has been like several times that I have gone. What the stage door man does is allows her to sign right up until the barricades end and then he shoves her past the crowd and into her car. If you are past the point of where the barricades end then chances are you won't catch her.
I have no problem with them not signing autographs. I know that it isn't their job and that they are off the clock once the performance is over. But I do feel that if they are going to make an appearance they should at least be nice about it. If they are rushed then they should perhaps skip signing altogether and walk post or go out a different door. I don't care if some of the older crowd is skipped, but for the little girls who are standing at the end of the line, I feel bad for them when they see her running off and realize they won't be able to meet her. I just think it's a bit amusing that at one point Disney had an article on the site about how seeing the show isn't just about seeing it, and that fans should go to the stage door to meet the stars. If you're going to advertise like that then you should at least make sure the cast makes an appearance. I'm not sure if Disney still has that article posted or not.
EDIT: It is still posted. I'm sure this link has been posted before but for those who hadn't seen it...
It was after a wedensday afternoon performance. I was there when they were taking quotes for the article. They asked me if I would say something to be in the article but I thought that the whole idea of promoting the stage door thing was a bit much in my book so I said no. I think that if it does happen and that the actor does come out then that's nice. However, I feel that by Disney promoting the stage door thing is like saying that the stars of the show WILL come out and Disney is just getting people's hopes up when there is in actuality a 50/50 chance that they will even come out at all.
I remember talking in a thread once about how there were a few people including myself who were talking about how we all had negative experences with Van Der Pol during her stint in Beauty. Someone commented that she was only doing it because it was part of her contract with the show. That Disney added that in there because they felt that it was part of the whole experence and Disney LOVES making everything they do an experence for the whole family. Someone then corrected the person who said that by saying that Equity wouldn't allow that. That their commitment to the show ends when the curitan goes down and they leave. That they couldn't force them to do anything extra. The point in me saying all this is that I agree that Disney couldn't add that into thier contract without pissing off equity. And, that I don't think that Disney is forcing them to do it. If they want to rush through it but are nice in the process. Fine by me. At least it is the middle ground between being rude during the whole thing and not doing it at all. I don't think Disney is forcing them to do it. No one is forcing them to do it. So no one should act as if someone is or that they should be forced to do it.

I seem to remember a Broadway PSA with Patti LuPone and her son, where she says something like "after the show wow your kids with a trip to the stage door." Its not just a Disney thing. I think that Disney is just promoting the Broadway tradition of waiting at the stage door. Perhaps they "encourage" their stars to make an appearance, instead of mandating it.
I mean Disney or any other producer can't force someone to do the whole stage door thing. Just like they can't force a cast member to do a public apperance. They can ask them sure. But, if they say no they don't want to then that is that.
I think its that Disney likes to make things a memorable experence. They do that in thier parks and they are doing the same thing in their Broadway branch of things. They want to create a whole "experence" in their shows that people will be talking about and remembering for a long time. Or so they say. Keep in mind this is what they want to do I don't know if disney is actually doing what they are setting out to do.
But, anyways. I think that they feel like a great way to end an evening of one of thier shows is to meet the stars of the show. So in a way I guess you are right in saying that it is something Disney encourages of thier actors. But, it is something that Disney in no way can insist they do. I also don't think that Disney was the ones to start the whole waiting at the stage door thing either.

Wait so Sierra DOES come out?? (recent update as possible)... or no? I know it really depends but speaking in terms of majority of the time. Does Sean Palmer ever come out? Has anyone seen Sherie recently?
Boggess and Palmer don't come out between shows on two show days.
And, there was a Broadway.com interview with her where they spoke to her as she was getting ready for a performance. In the video she spoke about how she doesn't like doing the whole stage door thing because she just wants to get home to her husband and son. And, she usually goes out a different door because with the invention of the camera phone, even if she doesn't want someone to take a picture of her they can without her knowing.
