What's up with this revival? Is it still happening? I haven't heard anything about it since last February when they announced Derek Hough would star... I thought for sure a venue would be announced with all these premature closings and Labor Day blood bath... I hope this isn't dead by way of The Wiz and The Best Little Whorehouse revivals...
The Wiz isn't dead yet, they're just waiting for the right venue to become available.
I'd say it's in the same boat as THE WIZ. Just waiting on the right theater to open up. Possibly the Marquis?

My friends and I were discussing this and realized Aaron Tveit would be brilliant in the revival

"I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.  This fall, I was planning on being immersed in rehearsals for Singin' in the Rain on Broadway, but due to successes of the shows currently running, that project has been delayed because there simply isn't a theatre available. Singin' in the Rain is still very much part of my future plans.
With my fall schedule freeing up I'm excited to say that I'll be back on Dancing with the Stars for Season 23.  It's always great to be back with my DWTS family, coaching, creating and making lasting memories. I'm grateful to everyone at Hairspray LIVE for enabling me to do double duty on two major productions at the same time this fall.  It's going to be a challenge that I'm looking forward to.
This next year is gonna be JAM packed with exciting projects and I can't wait to share it ALL with you
Are you guys ready to MOVE?"

I guess that means The Music Box and The Nederlander are both taken. Or it was a BS excuse.

Tend to think both are likely true...
And too small for this show. I'm still thinking it'll take the Marquis theater assuming ON YOUR FEET will be gone by the end of the year.

Do you mean in terms of stagehouse, or seating capacity? Maybe I just haven't been paying attention, but do we know the size of the physical production?
Stagehouse. I think they need a decent sized theater to house this show.

Derek and Julianne Hough just announced a new tour slated through May of next year. Thoughts on what that may mean (if anything) for "Singin' in the Rain"?

Here's a link to more info about their tour, if anyone is so inclined. :)

Likely nothing. Even if this were coming in early next season, it probably wouldn't open until after the Tonys, when theatres become available.

May of 2017 is just shy of being part of this current season... going to go out on a limb here and say this won't be on Broadway in the next five-six months, which is the time frame you are working with/questioning here with this tour announcement.
Hope it lasts longer than the original one which I don't believe made it much more than 1 yr. Saw production of this show in London in 2012 and really enjoyed it.
Does anyone think a revival of a flop starring a minor TV celeb would be profitable? Even if the source material is famous?
If so, we could also revive Meet Me in St. Louis with, say, Julie Klausner.
I need someone who can actually dance the role, so Aaron Tveit is out for me. After seeing the Kiss Me, Kate benefit the other night, I feel like it would be a crime to do Singin' in the Rain without Robert Fairchild. He was born to play that part.
After American in Paris, perhaps Fairchild is in fact the reincarnation of Gene Kelly? If Lin-Manuel Miranda is the reincarnated Shakespeare...

Cutting to another reason for a 'delay'; this show just isn't that good. The best number in the original was the title song which used the original choreography from the film and was done to a recorded track because the sound equipment would work in the (very expensive) rain storm on stage.
The rest of the show is sustained mediocrity at best.
It would be better all around to show the 1952 film on TCM once a week for a year.

"Isn't that good?" Those of us who saw it know that's it's a crappy Walmart imitation of an infinitely better movie.
The only person I want in a Singing in the Rain revival is Tony Yazbeck.

I have been saying this since well before the revival was announced. He'd be perfect.

I love Derek Hough and would probably pay Broadway prices just to watch him stroll around in tight pants.
HOWEVER, I saw SINGING THE RAIN in Pittsburgh (with the very talented Lara Teeter) and I could see no reason whatsoever for the show. The film is often considered the best movie musical ever made; why not just show that?
Unless Hough also takes off his shirt...
(I.e., I'm agreeing with you, Esther.)
