I naively looked for a ticket earlier since today was payday and wasn't surprised (and actually kind of relieved) that it was already sold out. To anyone who is going, have a great time!

Posted: 6/23/11 at 11:46amYes, which makes me wonder if tonight's show will count towards the grosses.

Posted: 6/23/11 at 11:57amWhy wouldn't it? Someone had to pay for those tickets. I wasn't even thinking about that!

Posted: 6/23/11 at 12:01pmIt's so nice to have a President and First Lady that actively support the performing arts (much like the Clintons did and continue to do), after 8 years of that buffoon.

Posted: 6/23/11 at 12:04pmThey rented out the whole theatre and tickets are being sold by Whoppi as part of the fundraiser, so yes- it's 'sold out' through maine avenues of purchase.

"There's also hint at a cast recording too."
I really hope that comes to fruition...if for no other reason than Chester Gregory's rendition of "I Could Be That Guy."

Posted: 6/23/11 at 1:22pmDamn! I was just offered a ticket and can't go. I'm booked for the Jennifer Muller The Works gala tonight, which I'm looking forward to (Jennifer's "The White Room" premiering at Cedar Lake is fantastic) but still...

Posted: 6/23/11 at 1:42pmI just looked online and found a bunch of seats for tonight's performance, I guess Telecharge released some more

Posted: 6/23/11 at 2:14pmWhere did you find them Tking? I am not having any luck.

Posted: 6/23/11 at 2:20pmtking, Telecharge doesn't even have tonight's performance listed.

Posted: 6/23/11 at 2:36pmYou shouldn't be seeing anything for tonight, because they are being sold independently, and start at $250. That's the performance/fundraiser Obama will be at- if you see anything cheaper or different, that's a completely seperate thing.

Posted: 6/23/11 at 3:09pmIt makes me so glad to have a president that supports the arts like this.
Sister Act tonight.#15
Posted: 6/23/11 at 3:16pmI've gone to the Obama 2012 campaign and Whoopi's FB page and can't find anything available...which again I'm kind of relieved because now I don't have to decide if I should spend the $250 nor not.

Posted: 6/23/11 at 3:20pmWhile I believe the diversity of performers that has been brought in to the White House during this administration does reflect their support of the arts, I'm not sure that a fundraiser is also a reflection. Obama will be raising big bucks from this, so how does that equal support?

Posted: 6/23/11 at 3:31pmMadbrian - yes it's a huge fundraiser but think about it like this: how big is the Broadway Theatre? I'm not sure the exact capacity but no matter how high the tickets are being sold for, Obama could have a much more profitable fundraiser elsewhere (like a massive dinner or something of the sort.) So, the fact that his campaign CHOSE to include broadway as part of a fundraising effort means it wasn't strictly for the most money possible. That's what makes it special.

The tickets are $250 to $10,000....the latter includes a photo op.
If I am correct, the producers are donating all the proceeds from tonight's performance.
Whoopi is a HUGE Obama supporter.

Posted: 6/23/11 at 3:35pmIt's better than a $1,000+ a plate dinner at some country club.

Posted: 6/23/11 at 3:42pmKad - my point exactly.
Sister Act tonight.#22
Posted: 6/23/11 at 3:46pmOK, so the theater holds around 1750 people, and the ticket range is $250-$10,000. If the average ticket is $500, they're taking in $875,000. Sorry, there's no way I see this as a 'supporting the arts' event. It's more like the arts are supporting him. Nothing wrong with that. I like the guy, and if I had that much discretionary income, I'd consider it. But it is what it is.

Posted: 6/24/11 at 8:35amMadbrian, I see it as kind of a one hand washes the other thing. They donate the proceeds to support him and get great free publicity for the show.
