There was also a fantastic documentary about the turbulent production of The Capeman on Broadway- very measured but also full of delicious moments!

We've been talking about this since we got the email this morning.
That is an absolutely awful advance for a 2500 seat theatre taking bookings for the next 10 months!!!!
It's a well oiled publicity stunt that, when is seen by the public, makes it look like some kind of record breaker.
I know for a fact that the previews are not anywhere near getting full houses.

During 'Priscilla's' preview period you had to fight to get a seat, restricted view or not! -and that was without the big selling point of Whoopi Goldberg being involved!

...and thats in DOLLARS not POUNDS!

I did find it hilarious that they've reported its advance in dollars. I did a quick currency conversion and it falls just short of a million... hardly an eye catching figure. Can you imagine the marketing people.
'Ooh, we've made almost a million.'
'Almost? What is it in dollars?'
'1.46.'
'There you are then, we've done a million.'
'But-'
'WE'VE. DONE. A. MILLION.'

Priscilla didn't do that great in previews... when I went, we had virtually the whole row to ourselves and everybody I know who's been (except for my little mother) got their tickets on the day. They're discounting now as well.

Its advance is still not what a show this size, with this publicity, in this theatre, should be.
All big shows that open always have a huge rush at the box office in its initial few weeks but that is still spread across the booking period of 10 months.

Getting reports from yesterdays dress that things are seriously wrong with the set.
Also, the director is ready to walk!!!!

Love it! I also heard/read on the WOS board (I've been spending a lot of time there; if I pick up any WOS habits, please let me know) that Peter Schneider may have been sacked. What's going down??

Tell me about it... I went to a convent school, for all the good it did me. Has Whoopi really gone back to the US? And has Schneider definitely been given the elbow?

***THIS IS NOT CONFIRMED***
It the latest news from the show that is going around town at this moment.

Whoopi hasn't been in the UK for the lat 2 weeks and isn't due back until the middle of June.

Schneider got the boot a few weeks back - but apparently rather embarrasingly still turned up to rehearsals.

Anyone else notice the £1 Advance news item is gone from the Headlines box up the top?

Also, if Whoopi isn't coming back to London till mid-June then she'll miss opening night. Huh?

Sister, that is what's being said but things hit the wall with him yesterday supposedly.
We'll know soon enough I'm sure.
