re: 'Sister Act- The Musical' -London Palladium

Oh oh... there may be some word-eating to be done by my good self soon: a group of friends saw the preview last night and said it was incredible. The book is meant to be hilarious.

OK, so they're dancers, but even so, not easily pleased. Could be a surprise happy ending for this troubled production.

Mama, where are you? Review, please?

Just quickly!

AMAZING!

A great show that is 100 times better than I ever expected.
Its huge, loud and very funny BUT it isn't half the party that 'Priscilla is'

There is a stage eating performance that is simply fabulous and has the theatre in stitches every time she is on stage!
NO, not Patina but the wonderful Julia Sutton!
Just you wait till you see her!

SEAT BOOKING TIP
I sat in row 'I' and even that far back I couldn't see the feet of the performers when they were further than half way back up the stage.
We moved further back to row P and that was perfect!
The stage is incredibly high and very far forward.
DONT book seats if your paying full price any closer than rows J or K in the stalls.

It wasn't a full house and was 60% papered!

Thank you Mama for the tip on seating.

I hadn't caught up with this thread 'til now. Who is Peter Schneider anyway - I've never heard of him, and I would have expected a production of this scale to have a director whose name was known to a non-professional musical obsessive.

Not surprised the advance was published in $ rather than £. I've said elsewhere that the nature of the marketing is aimed at American tourists more than it is Brit theatregoers.

stage entertainment did a lot of papering Hairspray queues - which i think was a great idea, particularly for previews. You can't moan about previews being expensive/not discounted, then get sniffy about an audience being mostly papered.
Ps - the previews have been basically sold out the whole week - not bad going at all!

The way the reviews are it will run longer than the date their booking untill in feb 2010

The 'whole week' was just 4 performances and Fridays was far from 100%- I was there chatting with the house manager!
'Hows it doing?'
His reply
'Not too bad!'
People off the street on the day were being sold £50 tickets for £19.50
Previews are not 'sold out' if they are 60/70% papered!

Jamie there arn't any reviews fro another 4 weeks- it's just word of mouth.

The show is fabulous but it isnt in the same league as 'Hairspray' or 'Priscilla'.
I really enjoyed it, it just didn't give a blast of 'wow' that the other two shows do.

I belong to two of the papering sites and I haven't been offered this show yet anyone think it will appear on them soon. I hope it will.

That's what makes theatre so special, when it goes beyond your expectations!

i'm in new york and only have very limited internet access time but just had to post about this show. i saw the first preview the night b4 i flew to nyc - and it was fanF***KINGTASTIC! every cast member was outstanding with julia sutton & sheila hancock even more outstanding. the set was brilliant, the score was way past brilliant & the book is genuinely witty with loads of knock out lines. it's a hundred times better than hairpsray!
at the end of the show it had the longest and most rapturous standing ovation i've ever seen in a theatre - this is gonna be a huge hit!

I wanted to see the one with whoopi sitting down with the view of the stage in the back. The intermission curtain is the only one i can see and its great
