I've got a friend in the Orlando acting scene who told me something odd last week. I'm hearing a rumor that Sleep No More/Punch Drunk is opening a production in or around Okechobee, Florida. Which seems odd as Okechobee is about an hour and thirty minutes from Orlando (without traffic). Anyone know any rumblings?

This is definitely untrue. They're in the process of mounting a huge Sleep No More revamp in Shanghai right now.

Wish they'd spice up the NYC one. I want to go back, but I've just seen it so many times.

Punchdrunk is NOT opening a FL company. I can say this with confidence.
SNM in Shanghai is going to be incredible. They've learned a lot of new tricks since the McKittrick ![]()

Any other info you can give us for those of us who won't be getting to Asia anytime soon?

I mean, I know a number of Punchdrunk folks and all of their eggs are in the Shanghai basket. There's been absolutely no mention of anything in Florida.

Okeechobee is a city with less than 6,000 people (a fifth of which are below the poverty line), no significant draws for tourism or the arts, and it's quite a distance from any major Florida city. It makes no sense for Punchdrunk, or any notable theatre company, to consider doing anything there.

Not sure even Orlando would be a good fit for them, as Sleep No More is a little racy and sexy and not exactly family friendly.

The only area in Florida that would even be a decent conceivable fit is Miami.

As a born and raised Floridian, this thread and the thought of them opening in Okeechobee made me laugh REALLY hard.
