When i saw Xanadu in December there were only 7 people on stage. Mezz less than half.
Urban Cowboy. There weren't even enough people to fill the first three rows of the orchestra.
Company, where the Orcheastra was about 2/3 full and there was virtually nobody above.

When I saw a tour of Little Shop, the balcony was almost empty except for the first 4 rows and where I was sitting, the 3rd to last row. I was sitting way in the back and there were a whole bunch of empty seats near the front of the balcony but the ushers wouldn't let me move!
Yikes! Everything I've seen was packed.

i saw glory DAY day before it opened, started kinda full, by the 3rd sound, 1/2 the audience had left. i think thats the worse.
Yikes! Everything I've seen was packed.
Yes, SgtDonut, we know that Wicked is at 100% capacity every week.
When I went to see Sweeney a couple of summers ago, the house was only about 60% full.
Everyone in the mezz had gotten the $35 seats so the ushers moved all of us down to the front mezz. We only used about 4 rows. I felt so bad when Patti shined the light into the audience, not that she could probally see anything, but I still felt really bad!

I have only ever seen Wicked,The Little Mermaid,Phantom of the Opera,Les Mis,Rent(A&A's return) and Miss Saigon and everything was sold out. So I guess whichever theatre held the least amount of people is the smallest audience I ever seen...LOL.
when i went to see Lord of the Rings in London (yes i'm aware its a broadway post)...i'd say it was 70%, but that was in december when Laura Michelle Kelly was still there, now apparently it's slipped into 50% tops.
probably why its closing...like next month? i think.
shame, cus regardless to how long winded the book was...the set/costume/music was worth seeing in itself, quite the theatrical experience.

'Lord Of The Rings' closes in London a month from today, 19th July.
If you want to see a small West End audience go to the New London theatre tonight to the last performance of one of the West Ends greatest flops, 'Gone With The Wind'. its been playing to 35/40% for nearly all of its very few 79 performances.
Spelling Bee. About two of the Center orchestra rows has people in them and then the sides were about half full. It was sad.
Also Rent was very empty a few times.
When I saw the Wedding Singer the orchestra was a little more than a third full and the mezzanine had only 9 people. By the curtain call it sounded like the 9 people were the only ones in the audience.
Less than 150 at Glory Days.

After 9/11, everybody was saying that all the long-runners would have to close, so I went to see Phantom for (what I thought was) one last time on Saturday, September 15, 2001. I bought a ticket for the rear mezz, but about 5 minutes before curtain the ushers told all of us we could move to the orchestra. I sat in the 6th row of the orchestra; I took my seat and turned around and the front mezz and rear mezz were empty, and there were 2 more rows of people behind me. I thought "wow this show really is going to have to close"
Second time seeing Company. there was maybe 50 people in the mezz and the orchestra looked half full.
Also, Xanadu. About 20 people in the mezz and there was about 100 in orchestra. Sad.
On Broadway: You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown (revival) - Orchestra Sides and Mezz empty, Orchestra Center 2/3 full.
On Tour in Cincinnnati Aronoff Center (huge place): Chita Rivera - Mezz nearly empty and Orchestra 1/2 full - It was a Matinee on a football Sunday.
In the West End when i watched Rent Remixed there were about 100 people in the theatre
Gone With The Wind was Under 50 percent full
Wicked In London, only the stalls were full
And on Broadway
Hot Feet was about 30 percent full
Spelling Bee on Tour, there must have been less than 50 people in the house, I felt so bad for the actors.
Grey Gardens before the Tony awards and possibly even nominations last year - I took my mom for mother's day and the orchestra was 2/3 full and there were 5 rows with people in the center mezz. I felt awful because nobody was coming to see this great show - but that's not nearly as pitiful as some of the others on here.
Cabaret in London last week,
there was a full stalls,
and the rest of the Lyric was empty,
depsite about six people in
the front row of the circle.
Alistair McGowan made a joke
about it, it made me laugh!

I saw the producers during the february before it closed and the orchestra was 2/3 full and there was about 4 in the mezz. and the audience was absolutely dead. it wasn't the most empty theatre I've been in, but the most awkward.....
