I just found out about this show. Did anyone here got to see it back in 1979? How was it?

Check out that poster art! The prince looks very late-70s and apparently the evil queen's disguise was done with puppetry. I'd love to see the VHS tape that was apparently released.
It's the secret beginnings of Disney Theatricals. Puppetry and all.

Posted: 8/6/14 at 8:09pmI saw it, but I was so young I don't really remember it. It was recorded and shown on HBO as well.

Posted: 8/6/14 at 8:29pmIt looked amazing! Now I wish they made a tour revival.

Well I know a lot about the show I even have a copy of it. For example Anne Francine (who was one of the many Veras in "MAME" and Mrs. Harcourt in the 1980s revival of "Anything Goes") was The Evil Queen. Also Snow White's father is alive during the Queen's attempts to do away with Snow White but is blissfully unaware of it until after she becomes the Hag. And then there's Luna the Queen's lady-in-waiting who is just as bad as she is.
The show was like a theme park show but it was good. The stage version of Snow White at Disneyland was better though

Posted: 8/6/14 at 9:09pmThis show did a tour stop at the theatre where I worked for about a month at the end of 1979. I remember hardly anything about it...except that the Little People were quite randy...

Thank you so much for the goodies! I hope Disney revisits this someday. If they mix the Radio City & Disneyland productions to one with the books, music, directions, & creative teams, it can be excellent.
I love how Snow Queen and the Queen have much more personality in the Disneyland one and the kids' reaction to the apple scene in RC Hall is priceless! xD

Posted: 8/7/14 at 10:02amWasn't Jane Curtin in this? I seem to recall seeing her in the Radio City version on HBO. Was she just a celebrity stand-in for the taping, a regular cast member, or is my memory faulty?

>> I wonder why Disney hasn't released the performance rights, it'd be a popular choice.
I imagine this has something to do with Disney not holding the rights to the original music. Interesting fact is that Snow White was the first American film to have a soundtrack released.
There were four songs added to this show and there are two cut songs from the original film. The only thing really missing is a song for the queen lol.

If you all want this be released on DVD, Blu-ray, or digital media. Please call Disney home entertainment and let them know.
Call Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment Guest Relations at 1-800-723-4763 (888-877-2843 in Canada) or submit a message online.

If many people call, it might actually work. Last year, tons of people called when 'The Little Mermaid Blu-ray and DVD had an error and they offered replacements.

I bought a VHS and was going to transfer it to a DVD, but that could not happen due to copyright issues. The people at this number passed my message to let Disney know that I want to see released beyond VHS. It really is a wonderful show and the production helped save Radio City Music Hall from closing down forever.

Posted: 12/8/14 at 8:42pmI remember watching this over and over and over on VHS. It was pretty great, I loved the sets and the Witch/Hag role was a dream of mine. I have a DVD copy in my collection but would have to look into how to rip it online.

Oh my word...I was obsessed with this when I was just a little gayling! It was on HBO all the time in the early 80's. And for some reason, I remember the name of the Snow White...or at least I think I do. Mary Jo Salerno? Or something like that?
I just watched a quick clip...I think that Huntsman made me gay and imprinted on me the kind of man I'd desire for the rest of my life.
