Snubbing D'Abruzzo (already)

Sorry for the cut and paste, but I think this sucks... And is unfair. Read on:

The New York Times isn't the only outlet raising eyebrows with its theater coverage. That other TONY, Time Out New York, last week shot a quartet of Broadway actresses for the cover of its theater issue: Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, Donna Murphy and Tonya Pinkins.

Who's missing from this picture?

Well, you could say Stephanie D'Abruzzo, of "Avenue Q." She's the fifth Tony nominee for actress in a musical, and she wasn't invited to the shoot.

"The concept is an affectionate study of divadom," says David Cote, the magazine's theater editor.

Apparently, D'Abruzzo was deemed part of an ensemble and therefore not diva enough. ("Stephanie is a diva!" counters "Avenue Q" producer Robyn Goodman.)

"The story has been in the works since before the nominations were announced," Cote added.

That's awful! Just because she doesn't have as good a chance to win as the other ladies, she still deserves to be in that category and at the shoot. Uggh.

I would also like to add that the ladies involved in the shoot were under the impression this was a Tony nomination article and were asking where Stephanie was. They didn't know until they were there that she was not going to be a part of it. It was only when they voiced concern over her abscence did they tell them it was an article on Divadom. Interestingly playbill interviewed Stephanie in their "Diva talk" section.

That is such a ****ty thing to do. Who decides that anyway...who sits down and says alright she had "diva" qualities...ugh people like that make me really upset...

Heyas, where did this article come from? Poor Stephanie...I thought being nominated for Best Actress in a Musical automatically elevates you to diva status...guess not.

I think she should be glad her performance isn't labeled one of a diva, but one for the musical theatre history books! I share the disgust expressed on this thead. I don't think any ill feelings should be held against the participants but angry letters to the magazine are in order!

THAT IS OUTRAGEOUS!
Well Stephanie needs a private shoot my god the woman deserves it.
What an outrage!
I am upset. It Sucks! Stephanie needs her own shoot.
We shall see about this!
Last week at a Theatermania event Adam Feldman was saying how much he loves Avenue Q and Stephanie. A phone call needs to be made and Stephanie should get her own shoot. Better yet the cover.







PS: Stephanie is a nice person and talented and she probably does not care about this. She only wants to have money for quality electronics but the Dame deserves it. She is a star.

Stephanie should have her own cover. As you can tell I love Stephanie and the entire cast of Avenue Q.
All of the women this year gave fantastic performances. Donna, Stephanie and Tonya really blew me away.

There has been enough publicity about this so Sephanie and AVENUE Q may very well "turn the beat around" to their advantage.
