Day seats were designed to get the hardcore fans in for cheap, the producers gathered if you make them cheap, people will queue, so getting the dedicated follower, hence making loads of noise, upping the atmosphere. So these fans did exactly what the producers expected them to do.

I think it was Rent that introduced the concept of day seats.

I've been at some crazy Wicked performances here in Los Angeles, namely Eden Espinosa's lasts. Those have been the most intense audiences I have ever witnessed. Having been to several The Who concerts, Espinosa's lasts very closely resembled a rock concert. Megan Hilty and Eden Espinosa have both acknowledged it in interviews stating they felt like they were in a rock concert. Of course, I'll never know if they complained about the audiences off-stage but I'm sure we were extremely frustrating. You can always tell when they are frustrated with an audience at the stage door, too. They are nice when they feel like they've had a good show and they rush when they seem to be frustrated with the fans.

If I were Ellis, I wouldn't have exited the state door.
I know, right?

Actually Phantom's right.

Here's an excerpt from the Standing Room/Rush/Lottery policy page from Playbill:
To make tickets more affordable to students and other theatregoers on a budget, many Broadway shows have implemented rush, lottery, and standing-room-only (SRO) policies. Anyone willing to wake up and get to the box office early, spend some time in a line, or stand during the show, can get greatly discounted tickets to the majority of shows on Broadway.

It all started with Rent, which, at the peak of its popularity, sold all seats in the first two rows of the orchestra for $20 to whomever would get to the box office in time on the day of the performance. Naturally, students embraced the opportunity and lines formed at dawn. Since then, Broadway has offered rush and SRO tickets to encourage an enthusiastic theatre community.

I never thought I'd find myself posting in a thread about Wicked fangirls but here goes...

"Another fan chimed in and in Kerry's defence posted: "don't worry she was probably just on her period or something.". Anyone else think that is totally inappropriate and rude?"

Yes, and very funny - funny in as much as it says something about how self-centred and egocentric these girls are.

Or maybe I'm just a twat.

about 4.04mins in. Never been a fan of Kerry Ellis until now!

Wicked isnt alone in crazy fans, Hairspray seems to be fast developing similar fans...and not just the crazed MB ones either

The Box Office area is crazy 30 minutes before curtain, surely more people collecting tickets on what will probably be a busy night is a bad idea.

Oh well, I wish anyone going that night luck, and a quiet front row.

The theatre needs to do something to sort it out. Wicked is getting a very bad reputation for having annoying fan-girls spoiling the show and it is putting some people off going to see the show at all.

re: Something Bad has happened over at the Apollo Vic

Did anyone see that fraudulent Ebay listing for day tickets? I sent a message asking about seat numbers and all I got in response was, 'u will be midle of front row (sic.)'. In the end, the winning bid was £510... I don't think anyone seriously paid that, whether they really thought they'd get front row seats or not. I reckon somebody's blown the whistle.

I've actually never experienced fangirl activity. But then again, I'm probably screaming too loudly to hear them. I am going this Saturday though... tragic, I know.

That's what I was thinking, but they put the face value as £50 without specifying the area at all which just didn't make sense, especially as they also claimed that they worked at the Apollo Vic. There was quite an uproar about this particular entry and I know a few people reported it to the box office, so I'm pretty sure that's what's spurred them to release that notice.

re: Something Bad has happened over at the Apollo Vic

The Ebay seller was claiming that they were front row stalls seats, he/she said that they were a staff member and could get them. As lovepigeon said it was reported to Box Office (by a lot of people), and I'm pretty sure that's where the new procedure for Saturday has come from so that tickets can't be put up on Ebay like that. I've been told that the £510 bid was someone calling the seller out and has no plans on actually handing over the money (no idea how true that part is), it has also been reported to Ebay. Again, by a lot of people.

In other news, Ashleigh Gray went on as Elphaba last night and I am told from people who were there that there were tears and tantrums from the Ellis faithful. And of course, now the rumors are flying about whether Kerry will be doing her last performances. It's like our very own soap opera. Stand well back and watch the madness.

I reckon she'll be there for the last ones, or at least Saturday evening. If she palmed off audiences with piss poor performances in order to save her voice for the Royal Variety, absences in the run up to her final bow are no surprise to me at all. Wasn't she off a few nights just before she went off to Broadway too? I'm quite looking forward to the carnage, to be honest.

re: Something Bad has happened over at the Apollo Vic

People were moaning about Kerry a bit on Saturday, saying that she was phoning it in and her voice was off, so I'm not surprised that she took last night off. Lots of people are going tomorrow night because its the 'Kerry Ellis Birthday Show', one of the 'big' shows that all her fans want to be at every year. I imagine she took last night off to rest her voice so she can go crazy with it in her last shows.

"Wasn't she off a few nights just before she went off to Broadway too? I'm quite looking forward to the carnage, to be honest."

Yea, she has an unfortunate habit of missing shows around cast change, which is why everyone has suddenly started panicking and freaking out over her possibly maybe perhaps not doing the Saturday matinee (c'mon, we all know she'll do Saturday night).

I think we've all turned into sadists, there are a shocking amount of us slightly twisted people wanting to just sit back and watch the carnage over this week. I enjoy a good freakout.

re: Something Bad has happened over at the Apollo Vic

Who the heel is she anyway? I know a lot of the cast see her as some kind of 'diva wannbe' and is a very hard person to work with!!!
She isn't some West End star yet. She's done nothing special.

re: Something Bad has happened over at the Apollo Vic

I don't think she's that hot either, to be honest. I love the show and I remember she absolutely blew me away the first time I saw it, but the only times I've felt the same way since were the one time I happened to catch Ashleigh Gray, and Alexia Khadime's last performance. I like Kerry's voice, but her performance as a whole does nothing for me. She's stayed in one role for too long and, really, she's done nothing with it. Look at how Broadway reacted to her... meh.

I've got really cheap seats for Saturday and I'm going because I'm hoping Kerry'll make it a good one, and just because I want to see/hear the fangirl bloodbath.

re: Something Bad has happened over at the Apollo Vic

I can't say I understand the Kerry Ellis mania either, I think her voice was very good at the beginning of her run, but now it just sounds worn out. However, I've never thought much of her acting, I've seen her 3 times throughout her run (twice just after she took over and then one final time 2 weeks ago), just to make sure I didn't catch her on an off night and my opinion of her acting hasn't changed, she just always seems like she is phoning it in to me. I really wanted to like her, what with everyone raving how great she is as a British Elphaba and how much better she is than 'that American one before her' but I just couldn't take to her as an actress.

Kerry should make Saturday a good one for you lovepigeon, vocally wise anyway, I imagine she'll be throwing in her special occassion riffs. If you can hear them over the screaming.
