Do you think the Spielberg film version of WSS will include the Somewhere Ballet?

Two months ago, I chatted with Janusz Kaminski, Spielberg's DP on WSS. He wouldn't divulge a lot of details, but he basically said the new film is VERY VERY similar to the original movie, but with a great cast who can really sing the songs themselves.
So I have no proof but expect there will once again be no Somewhere Ballet in the new film. Hell, even the new Broadway revival couldn't find a need for it.

Does anyone know where the film is at in terms of filming? Like, did they have to shut down production prior to finishing the shoot? Is it in the can (well, I guess there aren't cans anymore, but you know what I mean) and awaiting post-production?

They wrapped principal photography in late 2019. But I have no idea how they'll proceed with post-production, which for a movie musical is an enormous task. Hell, even the In The Heights film had to cancel its summer release date to accommodate a decimated post-production calendar.

Happy to confirm the “Somewhere” ballet is indeed in Spielberg’s WEST SIDE STORY.

No one can confirm it is in the film. Even if they filmed it that doesn't mean it won't get cut at some point during the editing process.

Quite true but I did get confirmation from a dancer in the film that it WAS filmed.

I love the disembodied voice during the song. That sings from the orchestra pit. I wonder who would be the offscreen voice in the film.

If the Somewhere ballet is in here, then it would be a really good use of Justin Peck's growing talents more. Sure we'll get enough of that in the final film regardless, but it would be nice to see things in the new 2020 version that the 1961 film didn't even do.
I can feel that Steven Spielberg is putting a lot of effort into this new version and that counts for a WHOLE lot.

The 1961 film was planning to do it, but Jerome Robbins was fired before they could do it.
