The show opens tonight in London.
Yes, I will be dubbed a shill. But since I do not work for the producers or the show I could care less. Wish I did work for the producers, I could use the extra money. :)
I just wanted to let those who wondered how the young lady who won the "What do you do about Maria!" contest sounded and looked in the previews of SOM, which opens tonight in London.
I think she sounds good and looks good. A lot like Julie Andrews.
The rest of the cast soudns good too. Hanson (Capt. Von Trapp)looks a bit scared in the one video, but I understand that was the first day he did the show after only 4 rehersals and I say good for him. He soudns great.
Check out the sound clips too. I love "Climb Every Mountain."
"My Favorite Things" may be from Connie's album and not from the show, when you first open the website.
I really wish I could see the show, as I love SOM and have never seen a stage version.:)

Looks pretty good, though it's interesting that they changed "The Lonely Goatherd" and "My Favorite Things." Hm...
The production looks and sounds great. Connie Fisher looks and sounds amzing. I wish I lived closer.

I love the sets. However, I think the lighting is too dark for the happy moments of the show. It's like how dark "Aspects of Love" was when the mountains were supposed to be bright and breathtaking.
Hate the poster.
I thought ALW had said he was going to put it on in the original format...move 'My Favourite Things' back to the Mother Abess and Maris's song and removing 'I Have Confidence' etc.
Looks like fear of public disliking it made him back down...although Do Re Mi is back in the original place.
Looks good though, thought I would hate it but might have to pay a visit.
EDIT: Whoops seems they have moved 'My Favourite Things' back to the convet...shows me I should do my research before I post...although stills looks more like the film on stage than a 'original' production of it

I'm glad DO RE MI is in its proper place. It always bugged me that they had never heard a song when they had just heard Maria sing "Favorite Things" the night before. Odd.
Wow, um, the Maria is awesome. Very reminisante (sp) of Julie Andrews, with a little different spin.
Connie Fisher seems to have the necessary charisma, voice, and look to pull this off. Wish I was in London to see it..
Yes, I was very surprised about Connie. I also wish I was in London. I should hear about the show in the morning from two people who attened the performance.:)
Also, many people posted on the Really useful Message board when the "Maria" TV show was still going on about the new songs written for the film. They were also asked to submit comments to ALW on his website. So Andrew may have decided to put the songs in and make other changes, since so many young people are more used to the film version. As he had said at one time he did not like "I Have Confidence" and I love that song. So I can't wait to get the CD for the new show.
It is nice to see that he was listening to the fans.:)

All this talk about Connie and not nearly enough about the fantastic Lesley Garrett as the mother abbess. Love her!!! I never thought Connie was anything special. She's not very attractive (which is probably more realistic) but dulls it somehow for me. Also, her voice is "OK" never rising to the level of Julie Andrews or Mary Martin.
The whole cast is kind of ugly. That little girl is scaring the hell out of me!!
"The Guardian" gave the show 4 stars, "The Times" did too and the "Telegraph" newspaper in the UK loved it.
I have not read any other reviews. I think Lesley Garrett is very good from what I have heard.
Wish I could see the show, most newspapaer reviews love Connie and think that the UK audiences made a good choice in picking her for the show in the TV reality contest.:)
Yours,
Carolyn
