Posted: 10/7/06 at 7:29pmI've recently been getting souvenir programs primarily for stage door autographs. They're more durable and, obviously, much prettier than Playbills. However, that does get expensive so I'll usually just get them for shows I love (sometimes I end up loving a new show and decide to buy tickets a second time just so I can get a souvenir program and visit the stage door).

I buy them if I really like the show, so as of now I only have two, Les Miserables and The Wedding Singer.
I also kinda look to see how good they seem to be. I absolutely love my Les Mis one, the pictures and everything are fantastic. I like The Wedding Singer's but wish they would have used a higher quality paper. But, after wanting to see that show for so long there was no way I wasn't getting one!
*EDIT: Now that I think of it, Les Mis and TWS are also the only two shows I have t-shirts from...what are your guys' policies on shirts?

Posted: 10/7/06 at 7:40pmI never buy the souvenier books. I think that they're a waste of money.
#29re: Souvenier Books
Posted: 10/7/06 at 7:47pmI only buy t-shirts from shows if I really like the show and if the t-shirt is stylish enough to wear on a daily basis. For example, I wasn't going to buy a Sweeney Todd t-shirt because I didn't care for the logo and it didn't look good on a t-shirt. But then I saw Lauren Molina's shirt, which is stylish, comfortable, and something I do wear on a regular basis.

Posted: 10/13/06 at 4:55pmWhat do you all do with yours after you've purchased them? I have a ton and love them, but I don't want to frame them 'cause I like to look through them from time to time. So I have no idea how to store them, they're just kind of lying around in various shelves. Anyone have any ideas?

Posted: 10/13/06 at 5:00pmI try to get souvenir programs for everything I see, whether I like the show or not. Most of the time (especially if they contain replacement casts) they're the only places to get photos of those actors in character. And either way, it's a good memory of seeing show.

I only by t-shirts from shows that I love, and the t-shirt with the logos of all the musicals of that season. T-shirts I have are Phantom, ASU, Spelling Bee and the 04-05 season.

Little Shop of Horrors (revival)+
Movin' Out
Evita (current US tour)*
The Phantom of the Opera*
Wicked*
Chicago*+
*Autographed
+Given to me as a gift
All were purchased from the national tours when they stopped at the Fox Theatre, Atlanta, GA.
The only one I wish I hadn't spent money on is the "Wicked" book. Nothing but giant, slightly blurred here and there, pictures of the original cast, and a little essay at the beginning. It has pretty much nothing in it, and it cost me twice as much as all of the others (except those that were gifts).
My favorite would have to be the "Evita" program. It's thick, has a great synopsis of the show, detailed histories of Eva and Che, and tons of great photographs of the cast. This is the only program I have where the people in the pages of the book were actually the people I saw performing ("Phantom" doesn't count since the inside of the program has changed very little, and they really only change the inserts of the cast).

I have a lot, can't remember them all, though.
My favorites (that happen to be the most recent ones I bought) are The Wedding Singer, Drowsy and DRS (Which have both that were made, no buyers remorse there! seriously, though)

Posted: 10/13/06 at 5:39pmI used to buy them all the time when I was younger. Started going to Broadway in 1969, and have the programs from 1776 (original cast), Coco w/Hepburn, Applause w/Bacall and Anne Baxter, Promises, Irene, The Act (Liza), A Chorus Line (original cast and many replacement casts), Hello Dolly (Bailey and Merman) and a slew of others. Back then they were only about $5.00.

I'm trying to get my Wedding Singer one signed by everyone, hopefully Laura will be in tomorrow.
I guess that's why I like them, they look nice than a plabill signed.

yeah
i really want to get THE WEDDING SINGER program
but i also love the DROWSY and DRS ones, they are my favorites along with COLOR PURPLE
the SWEET CHARITY one has great pictures, but is kinda corny :P
and i also agree that signed programs are nicer than signed playbills, but all depends if the program has a glossy cover or not...then all the sigs smear!!

Posted: 10/14/06 at 6:04pmWhen the Les Miz revival comes I'm gonna try to write to Ceila and ask if she could get me one and let her and some of the cast members sign it. JLY signed my JERSEY BOYS one so I think it would be cool if she could do that for me.

Posted: 10/14/06 at 6:39pmI'm not sure whether or not John Lloyd Young got that book for free or purchased it for you (either way that is incredibly nice of him). But I think that asking for them to give you a piece of merchandise that is sold for a profit may be a bit much...but that's just me.

I love to get souvenier books when I go to a show. I have souvenier books for:
1999 U.S. tour of "Cats"
2003 U.S. Gazelle tour of "The Lion King"
2005 U.S. tour of "Miss Saigon"
1997, 2004, 2006 of 3nt of "Les Miserables"
There are some I would like to collect like "Lord of the Rings"(I have heard it exist) ,and the revival of "Les Miserables" when it comes out.
