Someone great might follow her in the role if and when she leaves the show. No one can replace her.
"Will it really still be open in Apri?'
is this a joke? ALNM is the hottest ticket on Broadway at the moment.
Aside from the banter of all of the silly ideas...
My vote is for Maggie Smith.
Barbara Bush.
Paula Abdul.
Or Orfeh (too old?)
P
Why can't Kerry Butler? You guys are just haters.
Jean Simmons. She played Desiree on tour in the 1970's.
Hang on, the phone's ringing.
Oh wait.
Never mind
Zeta-Jones was on Letterman tonight and said "I will be in the show with Angela until June."
Hopefully that means Angela is renewing. I hope it wasn't a slip-up.
How about Chita for Mme Armfeldt and Meryl for Desiree?
Well, I can dream, can't I?
Having seen Beth Fowler play Lady Bracknell in Ernest in Love this week, I suspect she'd be wonderful in the role.
Not the first time she'd follow Ms. Lansbury in a role.
My vote is for Marian Seldes or Julie Andrews.

Ruth Buzzi, or if you want to go with someone older why not Bernadette Peters? Updated On: 1/24/10 at 07:34 PM

Mary Louise Wilson had her chance to play the role with the Boston Pops two years ago. She dropped out only days before the opening because of a "scheduling conflict". As close as I am to people in the Pops organization, no one has ever been willing to divulge the real reason she left.
Saw her last night at Feinstein's and thought:
How about Tyne Daly?
I cannot imagine Tyne as a Swedish woman who was once a courtesan. And I'm not judging that by her look.
I love the idea of Rivera opposite Zeta-Jones, but I MUST see Lansbury first!
I don't think Chita would take a role in a wheel chair. The woman can still dance!
I thought this while listening Wishful Drinking last night.
Debbie Reynolds.
I laughed aloud reading JWOWW... and then felt embarrassed I got the reference.
"I cannot imagine Tyne as a Swedish woman who was once a courtesan. And I'm not judging that by her look."
If they're not speaking with Swedish accents, I'm curious on how you're not basing that opinion on her "look."
Perhaps you're right. I'm sure she'd look positively Mediterranean against the fair, blonde hair and blue-eyed super-Sweded Zeta-Jones...
She just seems way too blue-collar for the role.
