Why do people judge a show based on 4 photos, and one song. Really?
Wouldn't miss this for the world, I love to give shows a chance, and walk into the theatre with an open mind.

the song seemed great for me. the audio problems can be fixed. the sets look really really great. the pop up theme sounds like it could really work for this depending on how they present the story.
thhose constumes tho....ohhh god. the green goblin looks like a green fairy ninja. swiss miss...a little better..but still no. mix those costumes with some of the Tron designs and you got yourself a super villain.

"To those knocking the Green Goblin costume, there is some obvious concept behind it if you just look at it. Its design as well (but to a lesser extent) as Swiss Miss's both look samurai-influenced. And going with the pop-up book theme, my sister thought that both of them looked like they were constructed out of a collage of paper cut together."
I can see the influence. The Green Goblin's design is very obviously based in kabuki (although all I am seeing with Swiss Miss is S & M robot). I am just perplexed as to WHY this "concept" is being thrust on a very American property- and a property that comes from a visual medium, with its own well-known and beloved concepts. Perhaps out of context it just doesn't work. Perhaps, in the production, it is more agreeable. But right now, I am looking at those pics and am befuddled and repulsed.
I feel like that, when showing off this production to America, Taymor made a poor decision in showing off these designs.

I know that even if this happens to turn out as one of the most amazing pieces of theatre ever produced (which may be possible, just possible)the vast majority of people here will still say they hate it. That is because it is far easier, and a lot more fun to come up with negative things to say. This is an even more popular reaction here when it is something that caters to the masses or tourists, because it doesn't fit into our idea of what high caliber theatre is, or should be. It is even easier with this because it has had such a troubled production history, but come on, we've seen a few pictures and a song, which was poorly mixed by the GMA crew. Give it a few more weeks and see what the finished product is like, and if it sucks we'll really have fun with it. Just a suggestion, feel free to crucify me for it when ready.

Thanks for the designs, Julie.
Now I know what it would look like if Cirque du Soleil ever played an S&M bar.

"It's interesting to hear what legitimate rock musicians can produce specifically for the theatre."
Unfortunately, this isn't their first attempt at a theatrical score. I had the great misfortune to sit through a performance of A CLOCKWORK ORANGE at London's Royal Shakespeare (they were hoping for another LES MIZ-size hit). Maybe they've learned something about theatre in the past 20 years, but based on that one song, it doesn't seem so.
Re CLOCKWORK:
LONDON, Feb. 13— 'A Clockwork Orange 2004,' the Royal Shakespeare Company's much-anticipated stage version of the novel by Anthony Burgess, has opened at the Barbican Theater to mostly negative reviews, with John Peter of The Sunday Times of London calling it 'only an intellectual 'Rocky Horror Show' ' and John Gross of The Sunday Telegraph calling it 'a clockwork lemon.'
Even Mr. Burgess, who wrote the script based on his novel, was disappointed. According to The Evening Standard, he called the score, written by Bono and the Edge of the rock group U2, 'neo-wallpaper.'

God... who would try to musical-ize A Clockwork Orange? Like Spider-Man... it's not really a property that "sings". Who knows, maybe Bono & The Edge raped (aHEM) their score from A Clockwork Orange for Spider-Man.
Although, in my mind, the perfect musical version of A Clockwork Orange was the 4:05 minute version Blur made for their promo of "The Universal".
P.s. when are we finally gonna see one of Damon Albarn's stage shows? Anyone seen news of this recently? (And, no; The Monkey King doesn't count...)
