They had much more energy than the new Evan. The rest of the DEH cast was great but the new Evan seemed too timid. I am so glad I saw Ben prior to him exiting the role. I know the new Evan has to get his footing since he just started and performing during the Macy's parade is a huge deal so he was probably nervous.

Chucky,
If you didn’t see the fun it that number on the parade, I’m sorry.

Really? You saw the show so you know that Evan is meek during the first part of the song. Noah Galvin sounded great. The producers chose a number that doesn’t give the cast much to do so I’m guessing that’s why they had the mics. SpongeBob needs the audience right niow and if you’re a SpongeBob fan you probably enjoyed it. Likewise for Anastasia, both have build in fan bases from their movies.

It was a great number to open the parade with! Hope it brings lots of families and others to their show. I just saw it the other night and enjoyed it!

It's trending on twitter (as is Anastasia) but it's getting a lot of hate :/

Just checked that out.... yikes.
Perfect way to open the parade! So proud of Ethan especially!
My son and I watched it. While it was done well, it totally felt like a children's show - meant for those currently into spongebob -- at 6-10 years of age. We won't be buying tickets. Ugh.
Based just on the SpongeBob parade performance (I haven't seen the show), it didn't seem like something that would appeal to children.
And honestly I didn't think Dear Evan Hansen came off well either. It just seemed inert. I think it's really hard to convey the show without the stage design. I don't think that number worked out of context.
The lip-syncing on all the performances was problematic, for me, with the exception of Once On This Island. I thought they did the best job of overcoming that hurdle.
That spongebob guy gives me the creeps. I can't imagine spending $125 for a ticket for my 5 year old just to have him or her creeped out. They should have at least shown the other characters in their costumes which looked interesting.
I hope it runs a long time and everyone involved makes a lot of money.
yeah, sorry. that totally looked like something I'd see at an amusement park(Universal) and wouldn't pay more than $20 to see. Still not sold on that show.

I get if you see this has purely commercial but saying it looks like something in a theme park just seems wrong. I think the costumes are incredibly creative and so much more interesting than what I was expecting from the production. But also I couldn't stop smiling during their performance, I don't know about the rest of you.
I feel so bad for saying this but Ethan Slater as Spongebob really does creep me out. He does a great job! I just.... cringe every time he does that laugh. It makes my skin crawl. Guess it’s just not for me. And this is coming from someone who absolutely loved the show growing up.
But overall, the cast rocks. However, Twitter is not being so kind to them.

It's still trending in the US so I wonder, even with all the hate, if it's gonna sell a lot of tickets, especially families with younger kids.

The younger children attending the performances is what keeps me from seeing this show.
We're those not complete costumes? Because that would be disappointing if they were because you can't tell that was a sponge except for the title of the show.
Yes, those are the costumes, and I think they work very well in the context of the show.

Do you want the costume to be a big yellow box?
Geez, what's wrong with you guys? It's Thanksgiving; lighten up! It was a great opening number for the parade, they picked a good song, the cast was totally energetic and Ethan Slater is not creepy. The costumes and puppets are quite original. It's almost like an underwater "PeeWee's Playhouse".
It's something "different" and I'll bet the box office is going to really take off after that performance. So, I guess, Scrooges need not apply...Happy Turkey Day to all!
