So apparently, people are already at the open call.
My friend and I are leaving soon.
We'll most likely be there by say 5:30 or 6am.
Hm. Hope that's good enough
...or I'm seeing Anneleigh in Wicked!

LePetiteFromage: May I just saw how amazing I think you are.
From my message all the way back in like Feburary, you've been supportive. Thank you.
Oh and trust me, I'll be taking pictures and everything.
I'm ALL over this.
You'll get all the dirt.
Just call me BWW's GossipGirl. :]
Yeah. An aquitance said there were people already there.
And to be safe it would be in my best interest to be there by four am.
And that six am is pushing it.

Wow, lol... ends up I drove within a couple blocks of it on my cab ride back from a club. Screaming and drinking all night--guess it's a good think I decided not to go :)
Good luck to anyone who's braving the weather and waiting!

She went, she saw, she did it!!!!
She's not terribly confident about the outcome, but I am beaming with pride that she was, made it through the "typing" and got to sing.
For anybody else who went, she was in the last group...they must have been massively behind because she was scheduled for 1:20 and didn't get in until after 5. Her two friends from school were there and she made a couple new ones (hi Katie).
It was a very long day and she didn't want me or her brother within a miles of her.
Clumsy, we think we saw you as we were leaving...your face was pressed again one of the Spring Awakening signs.
aww I'm sure she'll do great. keep us posted!
Wow. What time did she get there in the morning? scheduled out 2:20 and didn't get in until 6 hours after it started? Sounds crazy. Good luck to her!

Got there around 7:30, was scheduled for 11:30, didn't leave until around 2:30.
Not too crazy about how I did, kind of wish I had just sent a tape instead. Also, the whole waiting thing...it got a little cold and I should've brought a jacket.
It was an experience, if anything.

I went and sang my audition song. After, they asked me to sing a beatles song. Not many people were asked to sing another song, from what I can gather. I think it's good they asked me to sing another song because it showed interest... right?
All my luck to everyone who auditioned!! It certainly sounds like good experience.
Y'all better keep us posted
xx
Agreed, good luck to everyone!!
What do you all think about auditioning at open calls VS submitting online? Will they take the online submissions as seriously? Less seriously? Just curious. I've never auditioned at an open call, nor have I submitted online, but I was wondering.
"Clumsy, we think we saw you as we were leaving...your face was pressed again one of the Spring Awakening signs."
That was indeed me.
HAHAH. I was taking a picture with the sign.
HAHA. Omigod. That's hilarious you saw me doing that!
I auditioned in the 1:00 group and we didn't go in until about 4 o'clock. I got into line around 9:30-10:00am because my ride was ridiclious and we took our resume pictures and couldn't find a place to get them delevoped. The kid in my ride didn't end up auditioning, I think he went to go get high in the park, not quite sure. I called my aunt and she picked me up at the bus station in Mount Laurel. I met some amazingly fun people in line and we had a blast: Me and my other friend John who goes to college in NY had so much fun. I went in and they typed us: No one in our group got typed out and we all went to sing. I sang "I Don't Wanna Be" by Gavin Degraw and I think I even surprised myself, the casting director seemed to really like me and it appeared she was writing while I sang my 8 bars/chorus.
It went really really well.
BroadwayJim: I totally looked for you and the fact I missed you because my face was pressed against a sign is hysterical.

Clumsy...that pic is actually very mild compared to how whide your mouth was open during some of them, but that does give the general idea.
You prbably did see us, but neither of us is the most outgoing person in the world, so we kind of just let you do your thing...you must have run back and forth, up and down the street a half dozen times:) I was wearing brown fleece and my daughter was in a blue Nike hoodie...she was literally one of the last few people out...651 out of 679...her friend Taylor was dead last.
broadwayjim42: HAHAH. I kept trying to get a picture but it didnt work out, and I kept trying to make the same face, but my mouth tends to always be open and I always seem to make the same face. ahaha. I was running around like a lunatic yesterday. HAHAA. :] In between getting my number [I was number 16 at 1:00pm] I ran around Times Square like a nutcase. haha.
I swear I think I saw you and your group looked at me like I was nuts, which I truly do not blame you for doing. hahaha.
I am very proud of your daughter though.
Did she have a good experience
What did they say to her?
Broadway Legend Joined: 5/19/03
This is a girl who rarely swears (her brother and I make up for that though) and she came out of there, said she didn't think she did all that great...and drops an F-bomb.
I do think she enjoyed the experience a lot...after a certain point in the afternoon, I deposited her brother back at the hotel to watch golf and then hung out with some of the mothers across the street. Her friends (from school) Taylor and Jake were there to audition and they all supported each other and she said she met a lot of great people around her, especially a college freshman named Katie.
The best thing that can come out of this is a sense of confidence...she was a bundle of raw nerves but I told her again and again she accomplished a lot. The first step was getting in line, getting a number and getting the FAQ sheet. The next was getting inside and passing the "typing" (which it sounds like everyone did as the day wore on). Finally, it was getting to sing. For someone who'd never done that before, it was very a big deal and I am very, very proud of her.
Oh yeah, after she sang, she said that they said "that was great," but she didn't take that too seriously. She said she was on key for most of it but started out rough. She said the girl before her (Hilary) did "Black Velvet" and nailed it.

broadwayjim42: Thats great.
I had never auditoned for Broadway either, so going into this I was a bundle of nerves [Ask LePetiteFromage, he got a message from me and let's just say, I was not confident at all]
I had a horrid ride there, the two people in the car who were driving me were smoking and getting partially high, which scared me and I was already nervous. I finally ditched the losers and just enjoyed the day. I got my number and I walked around and just cleared my head. I sat in the Marriott and just thought about things and I even wrote a little SA Open Call Journal to a certain point.
I feared being typed out, so not being typed out was fantastic. I didnt listen to the people before me except for small pieces, so I heard them, but they were pretty good for what I heard. I went in there and and just did my thing. They told me I was very very good and I just took that and smiled and gracefully exited after forgetting my music and coming back to get it. I'm proud of myself for doing it and even making the cut. Hey, your daughter had enough courage to get in there and do it, I know plenty of people who would have run away in the line to get in.
So, good for her.
By any chance was this Hilary a short blonde? I think she was in the same group as my friends.

Definitely blonde...kind of two-toned, but i couldn't tell if her hair was short or she had it tucked inside her coat.
Time for bed here...way past my bedtime.
