Hi, I'm sure everybody already knows about the Spring Awakening Open calls, I just had a question. Is anyone going to be singing from the show? I was just curious because I know sometimes the casting directors don't mind at all.
I think on the audition page they say No musical theater songs including Spring Awakening.
I'm singing I Don't Want To Be by Gavin Degraw
They want rock/rock-alternative songs.

Thanks, I was just wondering if anyone in the past has sung from the show as well?

My daughter's singing Relient K--either "Who I Am Hates Who I've Been" or "Be My Escape." She starting to waver on actually auditioning (kinda as expected), but her mom's going to sit down at the piano her tonight and give her an idea what to expect. Hopefully, that will chill her out a little.
I also told her to listen to the audition performances of those before her and talk to people in line about their experiences. I'll be with her, but I don't know if they shoo parents out the door at some point.

BroadwayJim, if you see me, I'd be more than happy to sit and talk with her, I'll make her laugh and loosen her up a bit. I'll be freaked out, but I will probably calm down as the process goes on. I'm nervous because this is like the first BIG TIME thing I've ever done.

I mean even getting inside the building!
It's her first time and we don't know the protocol.:) I'm sure we'll soon learn.
I'll tell her you're rooting for her.

BroadwayJim: Tell her break a leg and enjoy the experience!
:)
LePetiteFromage: Thank you so much! :)
That means a lot to me.
Hopefully this all goes better than American Idol.
*prays for a callback*
I auditioned for the last open call in chicago. When you go in and audition thers only one person and the accompanist. When i went it was guy and he was really nice. They did ask a few people to leave due to typing but overall everyone auditioned and they called quite a few people back. Not me though . Good luck!
Theatreboy49- Yes, last year my two friends went for the April open call and my one friend was typed out for being to tall, she didn't even get to sing. While my other friend did get to sing and she was called back in October for a callback. No word yet. But they said they had a good experience, except my one friend who got typed out, Haha

Thanks Clumsy...look for a very tall 15-year-old...she's 5' 8"...with long light brown hair and her dorky father...me:)
I can't force her to do it, but I'll pass on your and Le Petit Fromage's good thoughts and hope it encourages her. A friend from school was also planning to go as of last week, so maybe there's safety in numbers.
Wow... 23 and ineligible... I've never felt so old.
And when they had that "wanna be in Rent" competition a few years ago they liked my entry but told me I was too young.
Am I in rock musical purgatory?

You're not too old, as long as you look young they wouldn't type you out.

How crazy are these? How many people show up and how long do you end up waiting on average?
I feel like going, but if I'm going to have to deal with a mob of 17 year old girls and spend 4 hours to get heard for 2 minutes, it's not worth it to me.

TonyVincent...it is exactly like you described honestly, hoards of 16-17 fangirls and boys...
Would showing up a little early help? Or do they line up at 7am, American Idol style?
I feel like being older and a professionally trained singer would give me a better chance than the fangirls/fanboys, but it's beginning to sound like it's not worth the hassle unless you REALLY want to do it.
From what I'm hearing, people are showing up before 7AM (which is kind of why I'm not going). Showing up early would definitely be a good idea.
If you don't want to deal with the fangirls/boys you could always send in a video audition.
Thanks, DTL. I'm definitely skipping if that's true. I'll work on a video with my camera or something and send it in, on the 1% chance they notice it.

quick offtopic question cause ive been wondering this for a while...
Tony Vincent...........are you actually Tony Vincent?
You never know
shrowds in corner
Haha, no, just someone I admire. Figured using his name and his avatar would create a cool persona.
And I think Tony's a little outside the age range for SA at this point anyway. :)

I wouldn't say 1% chance, I've heard of people getting callbacks that way.
Does anyone know if they are adding an LA open at all? I was surprised when Los Angeles wasn't on the list of cities for this new bunch of auditions.
