The producers of the new Broadway musical Spring Awakening confirmed Oct. 30 that the production at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre will follow the show's Off-Broadway precedent of placing audience members in a limited number of on-stage seats.
At Broadway's Eugene O'Neill, 25 seats priced at $31.25 will put playgoers in the heart of the experience (although there is no physical audience participation).

Theatregoers can purchase these unique seats in advance (at the box office only) but there are special requirements:
*As members of the onstage audience, it is necessary to be seated before the show begins.
*Since some of the show's action takes place throughout the seating area, the Spring Awakening company has purchased lockers backstage for the onstage theatergoers. These lockers will be for storage of personal items; large coats, bags, etc. which must be placed in the lockers prior to the start of the performance in order to keep the seating area and pathways clear.

In addition to the discounted onstage seats at every performance, Spring Awakening will also have a Student Rush ticket policy on the day of performance, with those tickets priced at $25. Rush seats are available only at the box office.

I very much want to see this.
Me thinks that the onstage seating will be handled with military precision.
These are going to sell out the wazoo! Available in advance, $31.25 each!
Out of towners...get to the box office the first day it opens, 'cause there are million of queens around here who are going to buy these out on the first day.
Am I the only one who would rather not sit on stage during this show? I'll wait for tdf...
Wait, aren't tickets on sale already?
I saw the show at the Atlantic. Didn't do the onstage seats. I sat in the second row on the right. I don't think, even after seeing it, that I would want to be onstage for the show. There are a few numbers that I would rather not be looking at the cast's backs while they are singing. Although, it would be a unique experience.

While I think it would be interesting, I think i'd rather see the show as it was meant to be seen - from the audience. Although it's tempting to get an onstage ticket just so I can see the backstage area where the lockers are - ha.
I always prefer seeing shows from a bit of a distance. I'm really glad they're going to have a regular student rush and didn't assume everyone would be comfortable sitting on stage.
I wonder if they are still going to be those hard uncomfortable chairs that they had downtown.
i'm interested to hear what it's like when someone actually goes. i'm not sure how i feel about this idea!

I asked in the box office on Saturday....they said that they're going on sale in the near future, but not immediately. They have an idea about how many seats there will be but it still hasn't been built. Check back in a week or two, they said.

Ahhh, so in addition to the seats on-stage, there will also be student rush? I'm looking forward to trying both out during my Christmas break in December. I know the show hasn't started yet, but do you guys think the rush line will be long? I know there's quite a lot of hype about this show...
Where are the seats on the stage, exactly? Are the upstage facing straight out into the audience, or are they on a side? Are those seats lit? How many people were seated onstage off-bway?

Picked up my ticket for the on stage section today. They're on the right and left, facing the action. The first rows of each on stage, the next two on risers. You get a warning sheet with each:
1. late arrivals will be seated at intermission
2. personal belongings must be stored in backstage lockers
3. Playbills will be given out following the show
4. go to the bathroom before the show or during the intermission
5. no recording/cell phones (as usual)
6. "These seats offer a side/rear-view of some of the performance. Some aspects of the production may be obstructed."
For $31, how can you go wrong?
How hard should the on stage seats be to get? Like, what are the odds of being able to get them day of?
Also, does anyone know where the student rush seats would be? I couldn't get it clear from the playbill.com article if the onstage seats would be sold at 25 bucks with a student ID. Or if the student rush seats would be elsewhere in the theatre.

So far, they've got a lot of on stage seats available. Not selling out at all. Yet.

When 'Spring Awakening' played Off-Broadway at the Atlantic Theatre, I had a chance to see the show from the onstage seats and from the orchestra seats (the second time), and I preferred the onstage seats. Yes, there are some moments when you're looking at someone's back or watching them in profile, but there's something so exciting about the energy you get from being so close to this energetic cast and rockin' score.

Do you need to buy them (the onstage ones) in person? Or can you call and do it over the phone?

Box office only, I believe.
What is the show really about I like the song the bitch of life though.
I'm going to be a jerk and call the box office anyway in hopes of on-stage seats. $31 is a deal this poor college student can't give up on.
