Hi,

I will be going to NYC in a few weeks and was wondering if it is possible to meet and get photos with some of the Broadway performers after the shows. Does anyone know if it is possible to get a photo with Sally Field, Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Groban, Glenn Close, or Bette Midler after their shows? I have read that some actors take photos and some only sign, so I would to know what is the norm for these actors. Thanks for any help!

I think it is WITH Jake and Josh and OF Sally, Glenn and Bette?

That said, you don't need to worry, they will tell you beforehand, typically.

I agree with haterobics. Normally security will tell you if selfies are allowed or not.

check out their Instagram to see if anyone took pics with the stars you mentioned.

if you have a friend with you who is a good photographer, have him/her take action photos of the star signing your playbill.

You should do a search in this forum, say "stage door Bette" replacing Bette with Jake, et al. This type of question is asked repeatedly anytime a star or popular actor is in a show.

As a general rule, pics are fine but many actors are not doing selfies because they can take too much time for the selfie taker to get all set up and in focus. Plus if I was an actor I would appreciate and respect my fans but would prefer not touching cheeks with dozens of random strangers at stage doors. And some actors very rapidly sign and move on. Some will pause and have conversations. There is no rule and it's different for every performer.

I would also love a picture with Bette Medler! If anyone knows how to get one, let me know!

The only two that take selfies as far as I know are Groban and Gyllenhaal (though he's pretty random and doesn't always take pictures from what I know).

Very easy, she seems to come out, wave and get in her car. So, you sort out which way she faces when she waves and get in her car from online pics, then you get in the crowd of people BEHIND her when she smiles. Then you station a friend with the phone/camera on the other side of the crowd IN FRONT OF her, and then when she comes out and smiles, you smile too, and your friend takes the picture.

Based on experiences, Josh will do selfies, Glenn will do pictures. The rest I haven't seen yet

I got a picture with Groban back in January, there were plenty of 'grobanites' who ran up and snuck a picture ahead of people who were holding playbills. Josh seemed a little freaked out by it. But he made his way back to people he missed and signed/took pics with anyone who asked.

With Jake it was a zoo. I was able to get a pic and talk for a bit, we have the same birthday so we made a joke about that. But once he was near the end of the line people just swarmed him and I remember one lady stood in front of his door and wouldn't let him get in the car. I felt awful for him.

At the end of April I'm seeing Dolly, War Paint, Groundhog Day, Bandstand and Anastasia. So I've been keeping an eye on social media hoping to meet/take a pic with Gavin, Patti, Andy, Christy and Ramin

Was just making a joke because it was misspelled :) That's a good idea, though and I might use it!

I was advised that selfies with Mr. Gyllenhaal were not allowed so I didn't attempt it, but at least one person at the stage door when I saw the show managed to get his picture taken with the star (who, for the record, did not appear any more put out by the selfie than he was by the general stage door experience).

The security team outside the Palace Theatre announced in no uncertain terms that Ms. Close and Mr. Xavier would come out together and absolutely no selfies were allowed. I saw no one disrespect the policy that night, but after Ms. Close left the scene and the crowd began to dwindle, Mr. Xavier actually invited several of the remaining people (myself included) to take selfies with him.

It also depends on the day of the week, weekends more people tend to be out at the stage door so probably not as likely to get a selfie. But you never know unless you try!

Last weekend Jake was still in makeup and was outside about 10 minutes after the show ended and people were upset because they hadn't gotten to see him because they walked around (the stage door is on 45th) and he was gone already.

Yes, the crowds are a big factor with being able to take pictures. A woman asked Jake for a picture and he politely explained he was on his way somwhere. (Side note: Jake and security were extremely nice). At Glass Menagerie they definitely announced no selfies.

groban quit coming out after matinees. i don't know if there has been an exception to that recently or not. he'll do selfies & will take it for you, too. :)
