Wow, i LOVED the show, but I never expected not to. It was so much fun, and the 7 or 8 leads are all outstanding. I got one of the towels at the end of "Move That Thang." The sets were great. I loved everything about the show and I really don't want them to cut anything! But alas, they will. This is byfar my favorite role I've seen Kevin Cahoon in. He shines.
And at tonights performance John Tartaglia, Constantine Maroulis, Andy Karl, and Michael Shaun Lewis were all in attendance!
I hope this show becomes a BIG hit. (Sorry for the half-as*ed commentary.)
Ohhh yay that's so great to hear! Did most people like it?
nice, glad you liked it

What did they have for merchandise at the show. Did they Have posters for the show Yet.
Other than the random people you noticed in the audience, how was the actual show?
I dont like the movie. Will I like the show?
LOL. orangeskittles makes me laugh.
capnhook- I HATED the movie when I saw it. I loved the show, though!
Wow..
It seems to be doing really well...
And on the other hand, people don't seem to be jumping for joy over 'Tarzan.' Could 'Wedding Singer' take 'Tarzan's' spot in the Best Musical Tony category?
Oh, and, YAAAAY LAURA!

As I said first thing in my original post, I LOVED the show. I don't think anything should be cut. There wasn't a moment I was bored. I didn't feel it was too long at all. The rest of the audience loved it too. They started clapping and screaming the moment the lights went down! The audience was VERY into it. I think it has a good shot at Best Musical this year.
And no, they don't have posters yet. Just keychains, t-shirts, and hats.
alli2- Any news about the cast recording?

What do you mean "people don't seem to be jumping for joy over 'Tarzan.'"?
All the posts I've seen have been very positive.
I was there last night. The show is horrendous. Just a big, unfixable mess. The 2 leads are completely miscast and are given no direction whatsoever as what to do with their characters. Most of the book is irrelevant to the story. The score is a joke. What a sad, sad big expensive disaster of a show. The only good part of the show was Amy Spanger, but her role could have easily been eliminated, along with most of her songs. There's too much extra crap in this show. Expect zero acting nominations, no directing nomination, no book or score nominations, and Tarzan would have to be pretty awful for this plotless Broadway transfer of "The Awesome 80s Prom" to get a nomination for Best Musical. What a painful night at the theater.
Nice to see a healthy difference of opinion
I was to have gone last night but ..... Who do I believe Foster or the others ? Hmnnn. May get around to seeing it eventually but need my wife to recover first before we see anything

Nope, I haven't heard anything about a cast recording! I'll let you know if I hear anything!
I loved the movie, will I like the show? lol- Sounds fun.
On the official Wedding Singer site, it says a cast recording is coming soon on Sony Classical. Not a lot of information, but it does let you know that a recording is pending.
I say believe the critics. Wait until the reviews come out, just wait. Brantley's going to have a field day with this one.
Saw this yesterday and loved it. I had some low expectations from the reviews I've been reading, but was completely entertained. It was FUNNY. Felicia and Kevin cracked me up! And Stephen was charming, funny and a great performer.
Ditto to what Foster said. I'll try not to repeat him or Munk.
It's pointless nostalgia set to music (ripped off from Billy Joel, Van Halen, etc.). I've never seen the movie, nor do I intend to now. But throwing together Ronald Reagan's love of jellybeans, Imelda Marcos, Pong (which was already obsolete in 1985, BTW) and "Where's the beef?" into a paper-thin love story does not a show make. I found myself paying much more attention to the ensemble than the main characters.
Aside from the weakness of the main plot, it's full of secondary plots that go nowhere. Poor Felicia Finley. She deserves a lot better than being reduced to playing an impression of Tawney What's-her-face.
Will it last? Probably, and it might even score a few Tony noms from technical categories. There's no question that most of the audience last night loved it, judging from their reaction and the comments I overheard on the way out. But it was a lot like Spamalot -- people were laughing and cheering things that I had no idea why they would be funny, so I can only assume that they were laughs of recognition from the movie (which the girl behind me mentioned was her all-time favorite, so go figure).
Near the end, there's a Cyndi Lauper impersonator on stage (don't ask), dressed in the outrageous style Cyndi hasn't used in decades. I got a chuckle out of that just because I knew Cyndi was just a few blocks away looking nothing like that. She's left the 80s behind. So should we.

I also mostly agree with Foster, Munk and Calvin. This show is complete trash!!! I love the '80's but this was overkill! After a while I was groaning instead of laughing. Most of the audience seemed to be having a good time which I just didn't understand. I felt as if I was in some parellel universe or something. I always feel bad for the actors in these situations because it certainly is not their fault. They are doing their best with god awful material. How and why does this happen? How do shows like this make it to Broadway???

Everyone who is trashing the show has the same common theme: "the audience seemed to be loving it." Is it perfect theater? No. Great score? No. Daring performances? No. But, everyone has a great time. Do you think a producer of a show wants a technical masterpiece that no one cares to see (Caroline or Change for example) or a flawed show that everyone is going to run to see? Hasn't the example of Jersey Boys shown everyone this formula works in 2006? This show will be a hit. How big will really depend on how Drowsy Chap is. We'll find out soon. Remarkably, Tarzan looks to be an afterthought in this season and will likely not even receive a tony nom for best musical.
