Posted: 4/2/06 at 1:41pmAs for the leads not stealing the show, let me say this. The leads aren't supposed to "steal" the show, that's the job of the actors playing the supporting characters. When you think about the phrase, "stealing the show," the show is already all about the main characters. I don't think it's a bad thing at all.

Al Dente, if you were more excited to read on an internet message board that John Tartaglia(40 million people go hoo) was in the audience of a performance somebody else attended than that speaks less to the quality of the show which you may or may not have seen, I don't remember if you confirmed this for us, and more as there may be indication you have something you need to talk about with your psychiatrist. Perhaps far too much interest in the every moves that people you don't know make?
I think it's a fun show, and my previous posts on this message board likely indicate that I'm fairly discerning. I don't think it's brilliant theater by any means. The show is almost painfully amateurish and by the end of it I'll admit I was rolling my eyes and waiting for it to be over as it has devolved into a complete mess by the end. If you have no great fondness for the 80's, you probably won't enjoy it as much as other people will. Personally I don't get too excited at the thought of endless Madonna and Cindi Lauper pastiche songs. I don't think any of the cast is misguided. I think the creative team is misguided here, mostly the book writer, costumer, and director. And Steven Lynch was great. Audiences will have a great time and then go home and complain about how it wasn't similiar to the movie.

I havent seen the show yet (hopefully going not this week but next) but based on the reviews on ATC (written by some of the most critical reviewers out there) I think reviews will be positive. I dont know, its just what I think and Im not shilling the show as I said before I havent seen it. Its just a gut feeling I guess...
The shows up for Best Musical are obviously:
Drowsy
TCP
Jersey Boys
Tarzan
Wedding Singer
One will have to be eliminated though, as there are only four Best Musical nominees per year...

Roninjoey, you obviously can't read and insulting me and/or my "mental state" makes you look ridiculous, that being said, I don't know why Jane is getting so bent out of shape, although you always tend to even when you were "a poster by another name", but I was referring to posts ALL OVER ATC and some "new" members here. I wasn't calling long time members with an opinion shills. If you're getting defensive, than maybe it's your problem, not mine. I could care less what happens to Wedding singer, I don't make money either way, so it's of no consequence to me. If you *properly* read my posts, you'll get it. Or perhaps while i'm at my psychiatrists' office roninjoey, you can be at your reading comprehension tutors' house.

Posted: 4/2/06 at 2:35pmI am always interested in Andy Karl updates, so speak for yourself Orangeskittles. :). There will always be rude posters who don't understand the concept of message boards in general, or free speech for that matter, so don't allow Ronin to upset you Al. We can't afford to lose you again, seriously!

Ah, I don't need a reading comprehension tutor, my friend. Are you confusing me with this Jane2 person? Which one of us is it? I actually reworded that post a few times because I wanted it to be funny rather than offensive, but it came out offensive anyway! Oh well, sometimes I just can't help myself.
I went back and looked at your post. The line to which I was referring to (and admittedly got carried away over) was:
"I was alot more excited to see hear about the audience members than the show alli2, that's not a good sign."
While your prose is occasionally slightly muddled (and is mine always comprehensible?) I'm not sure where I am having the reading comprehension problem. You must admit it's a silly statement. And while we're at it, do you mean "to hear about the audience members as opposed to reading your positive review of the show"?
Ruprecht, your post is inherently hypocritical. I was expressing myself in a free speech forum on an internet message board. Also, both your post and Al Dente's posts were about as rude as mine was. If you go on the board and express a debatable opinion, someone may challenge it.

Posted: 4/2/06 at 3:15pmI saw the first preview of this show, and I thought it was great. The entire time I was wishing there was a cast recording. I wanted to hear every song again. I thought it was a great, fun show. yeah, the plot is thin, but I did feel for the characters. Like, when Laura is trying on her wedding dress and she starts talking about how happy she'd be if Robbie married her, and then robbie sees her happy and realizes that he can't possibly break her heart. I wanted to scream and be like "she's talk about you!" - so, in that way, I def. felt for the characters. I wanted them to get together and I wanted Laura to dump the chump and get with the guy that will make her happy. And I didn't think the 80s references were stupid or tiresome. I never once checked my watch or anything. It was great. I recommend it to anyone who wants to have some fun at the theater. I wanna see Brantley slam this show. How could this show not make you laugh at loud at least once? Or not leave you humming at least one of its songs? Maybe the people that hate this show, just wanted something w/ more substance, which is fine. That's why Broadway is so vast. IF you want substance, go see something else. If you want to have fun and come out of the theater w/ a big smile, go see this show.

To Al Dente- I don't feel passionate enough about theatre to get bent out of shape. I really dislike the "shill" accusations that I read all the time when someone innocently posts a rave. Although this is a theater message board, I think there are too many people who really do get bent out of shape if you disagree with them.
I'm posting under another name? what board to I know you from?

Yes I've seen MARY P and BILLY ELLIOT and will be seeing WEDDING SINGER in the next few weeks. Some of us actually make our living in the industry, Vinnie and travel extensively to places like Los Angeles for work. And yeah, BILLY ELLIOT is opening at the Imperial Theatre next spring - just in time to compete with MARY P. at the Tonys. And trust me, my HEARING is quite good.

I saw the show in Seattle, Jane.
Now, which one is it Mikey? Are you seeing it in a few weeks or did you see it in Seattle? Or were you going to see it in Seattle and your private plane ran out of gas? Folks, his comments should be taken with a grain of salt.
Then, within minutes of insisting that Billy Elliot would be opening at the Imperial next spring, he writes:

Fine Vinnie, whatever you say - Mary Poppins still isn't going to win the Tony.
Michael Bennett, you have lost any credibility you may have had. Stop wasting our time. When you can figure out whether or not you have seen Wedding Singer please let us know.

I never said I wasn't speaking for myself. But when you attend a new show in previews that many people are curious about and take the time to post a thread about it here, you should talk about the SHOW. The original poster could barely articulate an intelligent point about it, other than to repeat herself with a brief and vague statement about loving it. There's no reason an American Idol loser and a few random Broadway actors that happened to be there should have been the focus of the post. In my opinion, most of them aren't even big enough "stars" to warrant this kind of attention in the first place.

Posted: 4/2/06 at 5:12pmyeah, skittles, but to some of us, its cool seeing people we admire. Whether or not you think they're "stars" doesn't matter. I was so excited to see Hugh P. & Sutton Foster just walking on the street. The people with me could not have cared less, but it made me really excited. Who cares if they're technically "stars" - they're just people we admire and enjoy their work. Give um a break, jeez.

I have a Wedding Singer related question.
My aunt and uncle are both huge fans of the movie, and for an anniversery present, we'd like to give them one of the broadway.com show gift certificates(another question, are these worth the money). Both of them, while they haven't seen too many shows, have seen a few(The Producers is the only one that I can name, but I know they've seen more, and own some movie musicals). Do you think they'd enjoy the show?

Posted: 4/2/06 at 5:46pmI have two extra tickets to see the show three weeks from tomorrow (8pm on Monday April 24th) that I can longer use and can't seem to sell them.....anyone interested?? PM Me. I would love to see them get used.
#70re: Star-studded night at THE WEDDING SINGER! 4.1.06
Posted: 4/2/06 at 5:48pmYes, but starting a whole thread just to mention a few Broadway actor sitings is unnecessary, especially since this poster in particular does it quite often.

Oh, well yeah I can see your point Skittles. It would have been better if she just attached a review on top of the sitings.
Lorelia --- I think they'd enjoy it. If they like the Producers. The plot is thinner than the Producer's plot, but its still an enjoyable time and has a great score.
#72re: Star-studded night at THE WEDDING SINGER! 4.1.06
Posted: 4/2/06 at 6:03pmYeah, I figured that from the reviews I've heard, but I figure, they're such big fans of the movie, and really like the very entertaining type of shows, that I thik they'll probably enjoy it.

Posted: 4/2/06 at 7:15pmYeah. I mean I liked the movie, wouldn't call myself a huge fan, but the musical is def. different than the movie. all the bigger plot points are the same, but their are some changes, but I found the show to work as its own entity.
#74re: Star-studded night at THE WEDDING SINGER! 4.1.06
Posted: 4/2/06 at 7:58pmSkittles, I've got to say, you sound really bitter and I don't say that alot as it's thrown around too much here. You can't slam Alli2's post and say it was "barely articulate" just because she chose to start her "review" the way she did. Maybe she's a big Rent head, A.I fan, Alterholic, whatever and maybe on top of being excited to see the show, she was excited about "star" sightings. She started the thread, it's her perogative.
