Everyone who is trashing the show has the same common theme: "the audience seemed to be loving it." Is it perfect theater? No. Great score? No. Daring performances? No. But, everyone has a great time. Do you think a producer of a show wants a technical masterpiece that no one cares to see (Caroline or Change for example) or a flawed show that everyone is going to run to see? Hasn't the example of Jersey Boys shown everyone this formula works in 2006? This show will be a hit. How big will really depend on how Drowsy Chap is. We'll find out soon. Remarkably, Tarzan looks to be an afterthought in this season and will likely not even receive a tony nom for best musical.

I was alot more excited to see hear about the audience members than the show alli2, that's not a good sign. And although I obviously haven't seen the show, from what I hear (from people I trust with taste), this isn't worth the 100 dollar ticket when you can get the movie for practically nothing, which apparently happens to be far superior. Btw, it's NEVER a good sign when secondary characters are "stealing the show" and/or having the "11 o'clock numbers" as I've been reading over and over again. It speaks volumes about how misguided the casting and direction was and is. If Finley has what seems to be 10 minutes total, stage time, she *shouldn't* be all anyones talking about. Sadly, none of this surprises me and it seems the shills are in full force on both sites.

I saw it last night too but didn't see anyone famous...

I had a lot of fun. It had some flaws, the begining was sort of slow but they still have time to tighten things up. I thought the cast was all amazing especially Amy and Felicia. Personally I loved the 80s references. The sets were great, the dancing and acrobatics was fantastic. I went in not expecting much and came out pleasantly surprised. I'm not saying its anything thought provocing or life changing, but it was just a fun show to watch

Al, the shills are indeed, in rare form. Can't imagine the 80's references don't get really tedious after a while.

So. Much. Shilling. It's like Victorian, England all over again.

Haha, I love it when you're called a shill by someone who doesn't agree. Laughable. I know some of the people who are raving about the show, include myself with them-and OH YES, we're shills. We're actually the producers. Please.

Now for the raves-the show is wonderful, the references to the 80's being the strong point for me. I haven't had that much fun in a theater in ages! I never appreciated a score so quickly as this one. While they were singing the songs, I already wished for the cd! I'd be playing it today if I had one. Standouts were Kevin Cahoon and Amy Spanger, but I can't complain about any of the others. What sets and lighting-done by the set and lighting designers of Pillowman. I loved the choreography. If I had to pick something to tighten up, it would be to shorten Act I a little, which is what the plan is.

By all means, GO!

Full disclosure: A friend of my family is an investor in this show.

But I think you can see it didn't affect my opinion. re: Star-studded night at THE WEDDING SINGER! 4.1.06

Sorry...definitely not worth the ticket price. The movie is much more charming and you can rent that for $4. Although I am not a fan of them either, "Jersey Boys", "Mamma Mia" and even "All Shook Up" are much better. At least you care about most of the characters. "Wedding Singer", in my opinion, is a complete disaster. Only one decent memorable song, no character development, no investment in who these people are so who cares??? Way way way way way too many 80's references and the fake Cindy Lauper, Tina Turner, etc. thing at the end was probably one of the corniest and least successful tricks I have ever seen employed on the stage. Come on people! I am usually very respectful of other people's opinions and give them the benefit of the doubt...but really.

I have to say the same to you. But really. Jersey Boys is a Four Seasons concert, which is what I liked about it. I couldn't care less about the characters in that show. It's an audience pleaser, and that's why it's doing well. The same will probably happen with Wedding Singer.

My favorite comment from a buddy: "They should trash everything but the sets and costumes and save them for a musical of WORKING GIRL."

Funny re: Star-studded night at THE WEDDING SINGER! 4.1.06

Jane2...yeah...actually you are right about "Jersey Boys"...I should not have included it as a sample of better character development, but for some reason, there still seems to be so much more structure. Like I said, I'm not a huge fan of "Jersey Boys" either but at least I had some fun at that one and left smiling instead of running for the exit gasping for air (maybe that was a little to melodramatic). Okay...I have left my opinion...I'm not going to force it down anyone's throat. Done. Updated On: 4/2/06 at 12:54 PM

What a sin! Putting on a show which is heavy on entertainment and gives the audience a great time. Get rid of it! LOL. I'm ready to see it again.

So Michael Bennet, you're quoting your buddy and calling us shills-how many times have you seen the show? I love when people comment on shows they haven't seen. You're 'favorite' comment from your buddy?-Why would it be your favorite comment if you haven't even seen the show? You're deciding ahead of time you don't like it, and you're loving the trash it comment? Are you serious?

Jane, I'm just curious. Were you a fan of the movie, or had you even seen it? Or did you go in like I did without a clue of the story?

Jersey Boys is more than a concert

It tells how the group was formed & everything they went thru using their songs while doing it. Best musical we have seen in many a moon & will get the Tony for Best Musical

Many reviewers who hate jukebox musicals (hate that term) liked this because they said the book was strong

I agree with Jane 2. How dare they put on an entertaining show. Not everything must be profound & deadly serious. We loved ASU & Jersey but we also love dramatic musicals. Point is not every show needs a message. You want a message - check your e mail

I saw the show in Seattle, Jane.

If you did, then why don't you post your opinion here. Have you posted it elsewhere? I would consider you more credible if you had, rather than calling those who liked it shills and delighting in others' trashing it.

Calvin, I watched part of the film, but didn't like it enough to continue. Hence, I wasn't keen on seeing the show but I was given a ticket and wanted to see friends of mine, so I went. I was totally surprised and happy! I couldn't wait to share my enjoyment on here with the board.

Okay..maybe I'm not done. I'm all for an entertaining evening....believe me. I agree that not everything has to be serious theatre. Like I said, I found merit in "Jersey Boys" and "All Shook Up" and left the theatre with a huge smile on my face. I even remember having a blast at "Buddy" and "Five Guys Name Moe" years ago. "Wedding Singer" just isn't in the same league.

Wow, alot of these "shills" seem like people who've been posting on both boards for a long time. The producers have obviously been planning this for years...

I think I posted something on it a while back; I don't write long reviews for anything. But I haven't admittedly seen it in NYC, so I'm not going to throw that awful production back in its face.

And Jane, yes of course there are people who truly like the show - Im not saying everyone who does is a shill. HOWEVER - there is a lot of shilling going on for the show - and not just on this message board. It's a good marketing strategy for this show that as you say is going to need word of mouth to overcome some probably less than great reviews. Don't get pissy just because some of us are quick to point that out. It's about keeping perspective.

PS - Not all shills join the day they see the show. Believe it or not, some people actually make a (part time) living at it.

I'm not the one getting pissy. I respect others' opinions and don't really care what anyone else thinks. However, if you start with me, I'll get back at you! You are the one who should watch the piss!re: Star-studded night at THE WEDDING SINGER! 4.1.06

Maybe I'll be called a shill,

but I will say this:

The show is an absolute ball. Go in. Don't expect anything life-altering, and you're bound to have fun. Folks, what the hell is SO bad about letting go and having fun a show? Pull the sticks out of your butts, get comfy, and laugh a little. It doesn't hurt to smile.
