Today was amazing. Stephanie really gave it her all, really the whole cast did. Her "Defying Gravity" was the single most incredible thing I've ever heard, she held one note longer than the ensemble and it was intense, as was her "No Good Deed". "For Good" was the saddest thing I've ever seen--even moreso than Annaleigh's.She didn't get a speech but you could tell it was by choice as she didn't even want to bow by herself. She was beyond incredible. I'm going to miss her so much!
No speech? no solo bow? Oy, Steph. *roll eyes* haha
I am certain you're right about that being her choice.
Thanks so much for your update :)
WithoutATrace - have you recovered yet from your fantastic day?
I am *exhausted* because I am running on about 4-5 hours sleep right now.
I will say this: Stephanie J. Block is the best Elphaba that has ever played the role, and it is likely we will never see another one like her for the entire run. She was the best I've ever seen her yesterday afternoon - her acting and her vocals. She was having the time of her life on that stage, and how fitting that her final performance was with Kendra Kassebaum, with whom she began the first national tour in March 2005.
There was no speech, but David Burnham ran off the stage to get her flowers after the company bow. She then took another company bow with the cast while holding the flowers. I was kind of upset that there was no speech...even if Stephanie told the company she didn't want them to give a speech, they should have planned one anyway. It just didn't seem right that she wasn't given a proper sendoff.
Still, her performance was top-notch. Congrats to her and looking forward to seeing 9 to 5.

oy steph is amazing. Her talent is BEYOND amazing. She can just sweep you up the moment she runs on stage. Thats what a true performer is about. Stephanie J. Block and Idina IMO are the two best Elphaba's. Both are just incrediable :)
thanks for the review on your 4-5 hrs of sleep from last ngith i think everyone like myself is on the same page as you. too bad no speech for her, but i was thinking what would annaleigh say to her.
nice she ended her bway run with kendra and ended annaleighs.
she sounded emotional during annaleigh curtain call, i feel those two will meet up again somehow. by the way her and sebastian have a small dog, my cousin saw it but forgot the two breeds and they thought it was great one.
was she even offered to go to chicago with annaleigh?
good to read she has plans in the near future which is 9 to 5 with megan hilty, elphie and glinda cant get enough with one another.
I thought she an Annaleigh were poorly matched in WICKED and I'm glad her last performance was with Kendra - a competent actress.
Stephanie was not offered to go into the Chicago production of WICKED because she knew she already had 9 to 5 lined up...frankly, why would she want to go from Broadway to Chicago anyway? I guess for the money, but her husband is in NYC...bad enough they will be apart for a few months while she is doing 9 to 5 in California.
I hope Stephanie has enough decent material in 9 to 5 to at least be in consideration for a Featured Actress Tony Nomination.
she was top notch the entire week., (and her entire run)
can't wait for 9 to 5.

(yes, i know the petition has a few typos. every time i try to edit it, saving is a failure. i'm working on it,)
thanks withoutatrace. i think sebastian will def miss his wife but will take a few days off to go see her. my cousin and her soon to be husband were in the same siutation as them and they talked over the phone as often as they can during the day but missed one another dearly.
i saw youtube vids of her and annaleigh and i thought they were great together.
i think they are going to be a few broadway secrets about her gone from the show and how kerry has to fill the shoes of her and plus lisa brescia.
by the way i taled to kendra for a bit while on the streets and she was so friendly but she was excited and in shoc to tell me that the left for end of defying gravity didnt go up not this sat mat but that sat mat before didnt go up but it turned out fine and steph handled it like a pro, plus she said she has faith in the wicked stagehands.
it will be nice if stephanie was a guest for meg and sho show.
yankees- are Sho and Meg having another show? If so, I was not aware of that but I can totally see Steph doing something with Upright Cabaret while she's here. They get a lot of great people to put on shows with. That would be AWESOME!
not sure if meg and sho will have another show but you never know with those two. i see stephanie keeping herself busy there but it wont be the same without sebastian with her. nice they offered her to be full time elphie on broadway for 6 months.
Listen this has nothing to do with the Tony aftermath, we really don't care right now.
I was also at Steph's last show and I was blown away by her performance. Every song she did was amazing, but Defying Gravity took the cake for the best song that night! I loved how she added little moves here and there. My favorite would have to be when she tells Glinda to hop on the broom and she jumps into the stance it was so great. From where I was sitting it looked like David was about to give her a speech then Steph started to shake her head no. Her parents were also there. You could just see how proud they were of her. Did anyone stagedoor for her. I was going to but I had tickets to the Tonys right afterwards so I was torn on what to do. Anyways, I wish Steph all the luck in the world and can't wait to see her in 9 To 5, which at the Tony Awards they showed a clip of Dolly Parton talking about the musical and they showed pictures and stuff of Stephanie, Megan, and Alison!
B3TA07-
Actually, as you can see, many people care.
And I'm pretty sure we have free speech.
people do love stephanie and i want say a fellow goodbye for now cause shes leaving nyc. thanks for the update about her goodbye speech, at least she gave a gesture and didnt say it out loud. i think leaving a show like this is way too hard for her and had to prob compose herself when she gave her speech to annaleigh.
still tearing up she has left.
you can still mail her.
you have to still remember there is still much going on for off broadway and broadway plays/musicals besides the day after the tonys.
Stephanie was incredible yesterday. Her What is this Feeling? with Kendra was hilarious.

Ben must have been being sarcastic; this is clearly labeled so that people who only want to talk about the Tonys know to avoid it. Besides, he's posted in just about every SJB thread on the boards....
I actually can't stand SJB's vocals in Wicked. I think her sound is just too mature for the role.
Interested to see her in 9-5.
"Listen this has nothing to do with the Tony aftermath, we really don't care right now."
Umm, listen. I dont care about the Tony aftermath, especially not in a thread about SJB's final weekend in wicked. Jesus, i just dont get some ppl.
Anyway, anyone think its possible SJB didnt get a speech because there is a possibility she might return? I mean like after her stint in 9 to 5?
Nah.
She's doing Funny Girl. That is...once everyone signs this:

(yes, there are some typos. I am trying to fix them but the revised one has yet to save.)

Doubtful.

So glad to hear it was a great last show for Stephanie!
I really hope she doesn't return. She deserves better material. Not that I have heard "9 to 5," but lord knows I've heard "Wicked" enough.
haha luckystar - i signed that petition. What does it really do?
No idea. I'll do something with it.
Put it in the mail to the nederlanders or something. haha.

Did anyone stagedoor for her.
---------------------------------------------------------
I stagedoored for her and it was CRAZY. I was near the end of the line and when she got there she said that she has to hurry it up since it's Father's Day and she wanted to take her dad to dinner. But she was still taking her time with everyone before me and after me. When she finally got to me I gave her my gift(Which she hugged twice and said thank you about 3 times) then I told her that I saw her 11 times as Elphaba which her reaction to that was "Holy Sh*t". We both got a good laugh outta that...LOL.
