I knew little of Stephen Gately except for No Matter What, and of him being one of the first openly gay boy banders. But my very West End show was Stephen in Joseph at the New London. It was also my first exposure to the show itself (which was iffy) but little Stephen was so winning as Joseph I couldn't help but have a fun time. I always wondered if he'd do another show, shame we won't hear that voice anymore.

Actually don't believe it. I met him once when I was doing a show in Sunderland and he came to do the press for Godspell (which he pulled out of).

So sad, RIP.

So so sad. Stephen Gately always seemed like a lovely genuine guy, I saw Boyzone last year in concert and he looked like he was loving every minute of it. He also should be applauded for being open and honest about his sexuality and giving young people such a good role model. He'll be missed.

I saw him as Joseph those years ago and he gave a lovely and genuine performance. I am very sad to read this news and my heart goes out to his partner and family. May he rest in peace.

Absolutely devastating news - he was a wonderful talent, and such a great public image of a confident gay man. What a loss!!!!

The Daily Mail has always been a bit of a right wing paper so this did not shock me. I can't stand that woman anyway, but yes she should be fired.

Very sad watching the funeral-I was on a bus with those bloomin' live news feeds on the TV and had to fight back tears among the saturday crowds.

Being a teen in the 90's Boyzone were a band I 'grew up with' and Stephen's death has really got to me-he wasn't much older than me either. I admired him for coming out and being a posative role model-no matter what certain journo's think.

I like lots of others will miss him.
