Suggestion for a non-Broadway show? (WALMARTOPIA or IDOL...?)

I've seen all the musicals on Broadway, as well as CORAM BOY, FROST/NIXON, and JOURNEY'S END. I also saw EURYDICE at Second Stage.

What else is a not-to-miss show in New York? Broadway, off-Broadway, off-off-Broadway, regional, etc.?

Advice is muchly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I'm actually seeing that one. :) Thanks! Also seeing GYPSY at City Center as well as XANADU for a second time. Need one more show...

I;m not personally a fan, but what about Shakespeare in the Park?

hahaha, I have yet to see Perfect Crime, and have been interested to see WHY it's been running so long.

Passing Strange is NOT to be missed! Last show is this weekend at the Public theatre. Broadwaybox has a 35 dollar seat price.

It doesn;t qualify as a "not to be missed" show, but it sure is some campy fun!

Cap'n,

Summer is a real good time to put Broadway aside.

If you're in the mood for some Shakespeare but not the Delacorte, there's a group putting on Henry V in Riverside Park & 82nd where you have to chase after the actors from scene to scene.

If you want a small musical, Count to Ten at the Y on E 14th & 1st Ave has tap dancing teens putting on a show at a fictional summer camp called Starwood. Tada Theater on 28th has even younger kids putting on The Gumball Gang.

If you like seeing shows in sub-basement churches, the York Theater has Musicals in Mufti, with I and Albert and then Bajour in the weeks ahead.

Lincoln Center has Kevin Kline narrating Peter and the Wolf on the 5th and 6th, Philip Glass on the 14th, and the Met has two Ring Cycles.

Finally, if you have a car, out on Long Island you can check out Tommy, Smokey Joe's Cafe, Footloose, and Joseph.

Thanks, Broadway Local! Exactly the kinds of suggestions I'm looking for. Perhaps you could write for the "What's Happening?" section here at BWW.

I'm thinking about IN A DARK DARK HOUSE. Will have to search for reviews. That or perhaps ABSINTHE?

Or WALMARTOPIA THE MUSICAL or IDOL: THE MUSICAL?

Between those four, which would you say? I'm include to select IDOL since it will keep me in mid-town.

Idol. I ushered at Walmartopia last year and it sucked, IMO.

How long are you going to be around? Election Day , a new play in Second Stage's uptown space, is running July 16-August 18.

I was going to see IDOL tomorrow but then I realized it's not open until next weekend.

Damnit I need a matinee show for tomorrow...
