It’s a beautiful song and strong performances from Maria and LJ. I can’t wait for the full recording!

I do feel like this would have been a good opportunity to release a song performed by either of the Tony winners… maybe that’s just because I’m dying to hear Have to Have You and Wild again.

From Ben's Insta page: Seeing the support for Sam and Superpower is so special for me, and all the fans who come to the stage door or on social media and share their stories with me. To have representation on a Broadway stage means so much to these kids. Seeing their happy faces every night is an unbelievable feeling. Thanks for all your support, for Sam and all our fans.

I'll most likely never see this show, but having enjoyed pretty much everything I'd heard from the score previously Superpower feels sonically out of a different show entirely - like a cut song from The Wedding Singer.  Not a fan.

You’re not wrong. When I saw this live, I thought this and “My Brother Is a Vampire” were the worst songs in the show (with all due respect to Pajak).

If I recall from seeing it in April, he's double-speaking "queer" the way his mom cluelessly said it earlier. (she's an 80s mom; the show is set well before the wide reclaiming of it) Just a guess. I wouldn't say he's coming out; it's more like telegraphing him figuring it out.

I've found it rather alarming that excuses are being made for Arden. He's an openly gay director who, on this show, is working with a zionist on the composing team, and LJ is straight up a member of one of the worst mega churches here in the US. A church that infamously supports conversion therapy and generally does not support LGBTQ members. And then that interview where he's like "the rainbow can mean anything". It's just too suspect for me personally. All of this on the heels of developing Queen of Versailles, which was pretty misguided, and the MHE mess. In these times of extreme fascism and religious psychosis on the rise, it would've been nice to see Arden affirm what is plain about the brother.

Gasp! A Zionist?! How dare he work with someone who thinks Israel has a right to exist. You do realize many Zionists loathe Bibi, protest their government and want to see a two-state solution, right? Or do you just spew this bile without any knowledge?

By the way, Israel is the only safe haven for LGBTQ people in the Middle East. Marriage is recognized, though not performed as the only marriage in Israel is religious. But you will receive full equal treatment for a married couple if you are married elsewhere. So, yeah, it's not surprising a gay man would feel comfortable working with a Zionist.

As for LJ: We are always told "if they're the best person for the job at the audition, they should get the role". He is wonderful in the show. I don't have to agree with his religious beliefs. He's doing his job.

Is he? I don't disagree that he's a very strong singer, but every time he opens his mouth to deliver a line of dialogue, you are immediately reminded he got his start on the Disney Channel.

If he was good, it's a role that would be an easy Tony nomination.

That's your opinion, but clearly not the creative team's...

Which is all you need to know to conclude that it's a garbage country. **** theocracy.

To be clear, the same sentiment applies to Israel's Islamist neighbors. No country dedicated to a particular religion has a right to exist.

1) Muslims live and practice their religion in Israel.

2) There are many Muslim ethnostates in the world.

3) Calling something a "garbage country", while you continually rail against Trump for similar comments, is hateful and wrong. I sincerely hope the mods are reading this thread.

I realize it's obvious. That's the point. You can think he isn't good or deserving of the role. They clearly thought he was. The point is that his RELIGIOUS BELIEFS should not affect his ability to be given a job.

hope that helps!!!

Courtney, take your break.

I did find it very weird that Arden was so cagey about the extremely obvious coming out message in "Superhero" in that interview with Vulture. Even the interviewer was incredulous about how Arden was trying to spin it. How show handles Sam's perceived queerness isn't exactly empowering- it's more or less consistently a running joke. Choosing to lean into it for Pride seems a little... opportunistic, I suppose.
