So I am new to the city and don't know these things... I thought previews were cheaper?! Tickets for Sweeney previews are the usual $100. Any ways around this?

Try joining TDF, and if you don't qualifiy for that, try the TKTS booth in Times Square. They may or may not have tickets, though.

Previews are always the same price as regular performances. There are ways to get cheaper tickets through TDF or TKTS if the producers choose to release tickets to those services, but the tickets you get at the box office and through telecharge are full price.
The audience goes in understanding that the show is still a work in progress. It's a time to see what works and what doesn't work in front of an audience.

I got tickets for 36 bucks from telecharge- apparently the last few rows are going for that price. If you want to see it from the worst seats possible.

They aren't the worst seats possible. I bought those seats.
I have sat in many Broadway theatres...even the second to last row of the balcony in the Ford Center (now Hilton Theatre) and saw perfectly. Broadway theatres aren't that huge. Everyone is under the assumption that those seats are nosebleed seats. They're not. This isn't a stadium...you get a great view for less than half the price.

i got the $36 seats for this Saturday. I am on the aisle and I'm sure the view will be just fine. The Eugene O'Neil is a small theater.

For "On the 20th Century" benefit show last Monday, I sat for the first time in the balcony at the New Amsterdam Theater and it was painful! The seats are so far from the stage that people actually brought bincoluars! I could barley see anyone's facial expression! Thankfully I moved up to the 'box seats' towards the side of the balcony for the 2nd act!
