Since basically all the articles that have come out for the Sweeney Todd movies have said that it's supposed to be released later next year, I was wondering if anybody had a specific date in mind for when they think they should release it. Me personally I think it would be great if the had it finished and ready for a release in October, maybe the weekend before Halloween.
What songs do you think will either be kept in or cut from the film? I think at least one song that'll probably be cut would be "Wait" and I think that they'll keep "A Little Priest", "The Ballad Of Sweeney Todd"(both beginning and end), all of the "Johannas", "God That's Good", "Pretty Women", and "Not While I'm Around". So, what do the rest of you think?

A question mark in your subject would be really helpful, thanks.

hehehe! Seriously, too early to talk. No date has been set. And I'm not allowed to talk about cuts.
I would like a cookie, though...
I hope they cut Pretty Women and at least some of the second Johanna. I love them both on stage, but on film those are the two that I can imagine being the most tedious.

i think they'll end up cutting "Wait" and maybe "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" (or at least shorten it)
"By The Sea" is another number that can easily be cut from the film.
I doubt they'll cut BY THE SEA. The second half of the show/movie will need the lightness and joyful fluff of that song.

I agree, and also remember they will need to keep this number as a solo for the star they want to lure into playing Mrs.Lovett.
I doubt they'll keep "God, that's good!" it is one of those numbers that could easily work as written dialogue in a film.
Pretty Women build the tension so well though between the Judge and Sweeney. NOt sure that it could be effectively replaced with dialogue.
I was thinking about this last night and songs that can be turned into dialogue would be:
"poor thing"
"My friends"
"The Contest/Pirelli's"
"Kiss Me"
"By the Sea"
"Wait"
"City on Fire"
"Green Finch and Linnet Bird"
Ah Miss
Ladies...
epiphany
Ideally, I'd hope they keep
The Ballad of Sweeney Todd (opening narration)
Johanna (both versions)- the second one can be used as narration over the action Pretty Women
A Little Priest
God, That's Good!
Not While I'm Around
The Ballad of Sweeney Todd (closing narration)
I think, in terms of effectiveness of the stage show, yes, "By The Sea" works to create comedic relief in Act II. But I don't think it's necessary to a film. It could easily be cut.
Whoever posted this, please put a question mark.
I remember hearing somewhere that "Greenfinch" was going to be cut...

Are you happy now that I put a question mark, cause I didn't need it really, cause this is more of an opinion message then a asking a question getting a response from someone who know kinda of thing, but I changed it and added a question mark.
I think that some of that a good amount of the songs will probably be shorten or changed to dialogue cause I mean some of the songs like "No Place Like London" or "The Judge's Return" are more of an equal amount of dialogue and song. So in essence it might be more like a Little Shop movie then a Producers movie when it comes to the song count(one cut alot they other kept alot).

Guaranteed when it comes out, people will not be happy
There will be weeping & gnashing of teeth over whatever cuts are made
"The movie is set to begin shooting in early February at Pinewood Studios near London, with rehearsals and pre-recordings beginning in November and December. A late 2007 release date is planned."
Timetable Set for Burton's Sweeney Todd Film Starring Johnny Depp
I probably am safe in saying that the epiphany will be cut. Depp rushing up to strangers on the street screaming at them to come in and get a shave would blow Todd's cover.
I think Priest will be SIGNIFACANTLY cut down. If not cut.

I doubt the song will be gone but I expect either a Sondheim re-write or some awkward cuts, unfortunately. The first part will probably be gone.
I still think "By The Sea" won't be cut. It is a solo for the female star and it allows for comic relief.
If a big hollywood name isn't playing Mrs. L. you can forget her songs.
Surely they would not cut "A Little Priest." I don't think Tim Burton would be that stupid. However, I wouldn't be surprised if they cut it down a little--it is a pretty long song.
But songs I'm pretty sure will be cut (based purely on guess):
Green Finch
Barber and His Wife
Judge's song
Much of the Pirelli sequence
Parlor Songs
By the Sea
Has Tim Burton seen the revival?
Hopefully not--I don't want him to get any bad ideas. HA!
