Her voice sounds so digitalized.
I'm going when it comes to Sacramento. I'm excited!
I'm seeing it in San Jose on Sept 30th. I'm really curious to see Ringwald on stage, as I've only read of her performances in NY. I'm also curious to see the tour vs the Broadway production, to check out the sets and the like.
Tickets weren't too bad...but it was a pain in the ass getting them online without them trying to force you into purchasing side seats for $73 bucks.
Charity isn't that demanding of a role. She's gonna be fine.
Personally, i'm dying to see this in March.

yeah she'll do great
sorry, though, i just cant help but crack up when she says "He loves me!" in the commerical...she sounds so funny/cute ;P
If she can handle Sally Bowles.
She can handle Charity.
"Charity isn't that demanding of a role. She's gonna be fine."
"If she can handle Sally Bowles.
She can handle Charity."
*sigh*
...And THAT's the trouble with Broadway actors and acting today. This is a brilliantly layered, complex role that unfortunately several of you here perceive as being not much more demanding than a walk-through.
As Martha would say... sad, sad, sad.
Here's a review of the show from the SD Union Tribune. I'd say it's mixed to positive about the show.
Union Trib - Sweet Charity
Okay, well i'm sorry we don't have many Gwen Verdon's around anymore, but now in a modern Broadway, Charity is perceived as a non-demanding role. Christina Applegate got NOMINATED for her performance.
If Christina can do it, i'm sure Molly will do fine.
It's VERY sad this role is considered a non-demanding role.
Gwen Verdon's Charity was one of the most demanding dance roles of all time.
Gwen Verdon, Debbie Allen, Ann Reinking, Donna McKechnie, and many of the other Fosse Charity's busted their asses nightly with this role. To say the Charity that these woman played was not demanding is probally one of the saddest things I've read on this board.
best12 - Please don't misinterpret what I said.
It was worded incorrectly.
I, for one, feel the same emotional pangs when Charity keeps losing in life as I do when Sally Bowles gives up her child. In fact, both characters have a great deal in common.
Charity is a might difficult role and to play it is a demanding job.
I meant to say that Ringwald proved to me that she can handle a role of this nature and I have faith that she can do it again.
ok, I saw it with Applegate (so sorry to not have been around for the 66 version) and the role is still demanding. Charity is one of the THE GREAT female roles for a broadway show and always will be.
Another review of the show from North County Times here in San Diego...generally positive, but mixed for Molly

I saw it was Applegate and LOVED it. This show is great musical theatre.
There's a movie with Molly in it on Lifetime right now.
I am seeing the show this Friday. I haven't seen the show, but I guess I'll see how it goes. I'm not good at reviews, but I might post something on how everyone did.
How come, according to NC Times that it says that the show was first produced in 1996...."Sweet Charity," first produced in 1996 and revived last year on Broadway." Is that an error, should it have said 1966?
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW; that commercial is horrid!
if anyone is interested all the sweet charity merchandise is discounted right now on thebroadwaycollection.com. the program is only five dollars... they weren't selling anything at the show and the guy told me to go there.

That commerical is a mess! And how did they digitally remove Christina Applegate and superimpose Molly Ringwald in?
I'm excited to see the show with Molly, but she didn't impress me in the commercial. I know it's a 30-second clip, but Christina impressed me in the commercial. At least I didn't feel like I was watching a commercial.

As far as digitally removing Christina, I don't know if they did, since she only appeared with the female ensemble for a brief second (and you couldn't see their faces, so it easily could've been the tour ensemble). Also, please remember that the only reason for this Chartiy production from the beginning has been to market a star in it. The whole marketing campaign on Broadway was "Come see Christina Applegate as Sweet Charity." So now on tour, they would market it as "Come see Molly Ringwald as Sweet Charity." Because, I for some reason think it wouldn't appeal to mainstream America without a somewhat recongnizable name in it.
Personally, I think that Ringwald will deliver an adequate performance and please audiences. I saw the revival at it's second to last performance and was very impressed with Applegate, and I'm hopping that Ringwald will deliver as well.
I liked Christina Applegate much more than I thought I would. I hope she comes back to bway in another show. Or maybe plays Babe in the alleged Pajama Game tour?
Does anyone have a link to the commercial..would love to see it..
It's the link on the other page from amtsj.org. That clip has been on AMT's site for I'd say over a month. So that might give the time period from when we saw her at the Tony's to then...who knows.
