Wonderful indeed. Yes the VO is not great, but for a small tease of the show it works. If anything, the VO could be a little bit more deeper in tone and a bit more seductive.
Certainly beautifully shot but I found their visual expressions and body language more scared - she / oppressive - him than sexy - which is cool with me - it felt grittier and more real in those 15 seconds than many of their predecessors.
There's always a lot happening at that moment: an element of power and submission, a meeting of two worlds, a certain erotic tension between them. In case you haven't watched it in a while, Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr play it so beautifully from around 2:57 to 3:40. It's also palpable even aurally in the 1977 Broadway revival recording with Brynner again opposite Constance Towers.

i just watched the video of the filming of a studio recording of THE KING AND I with JULIE ANDREWS as ANNA...and WOW!...would she have made the perfect ANNA if only the timing had been right for her when the film was to be made...just amazing!

This commercial is nicely done. I will be there in May and am very excited! I have friends who are wondering if this show will be on TKTS, and I honestly don't know what to tell them - the available seats already look limited to me. I'm hoping this would be a hit! Kelli O'Hara is amazing, and I was so upset when Bridges of Madison County closed as early as it did.
I don't mind the red hair and like the bald look. They look more matched in age this way. If they re-do the voice over, this commercial could be perfect. Too bad it's not a 30 second spot, though I'm sure we'll get one as it gets closer.
Its lovely, but I thought the costumes were sort of been there done that... I think I wanted to see a new colour story or something, some kind of new, less literal take... its beautiful, but I feel like its nothing new.
I don't get all the gushing over this 15 second promo. It looks beautiful but exactly as The King and I should look. There is nothing new here at all. It's basically the same dress Deborah Kerr wore. I would love to see it, but I'm not paying $191 to see The King and I.
And maybe I missed something; does Anna have to be a redhead?
I was thinking about this, and it made me realize that red/reddish auburn seems to be disproportionately represented onstage, compared to how many people are natural redheads. Is there an actual reason why red and reddish auburn wigs are so popular?

I blame Gwen Verdon and then Bernadette Peters. As for Anna, I guess after Deborah Kerr played her in the movie, that's the image that most resonates with people. I don't think Donna Murphy's image automatically comes to mind when people think of Anna.
