The New Group celebrates its 30th season with The Last Bimbo of the Apocalypse, a new musical from the Pulitzer Prize finalist team of Michael Breslin and Patrick Foley, and co-creator Rory Pelsue. Who remembers that famous 2006 New York Post photo of Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, and Paris Hilton? What if there was a fourth? Who's seen it, and what did you think?

Unapologetically campy, Last Bimbo is also stealthily brilliant, pulling back the curtain on the smoke-and-mirrors show that has overtaken much of our culture and politics. This high age of fraud is also a golden opportunity for storytellers, and no theatermakers are seizing it with as much glee as Foley and Breslin.

The Last Bimbo of the Apocalypse may traffic in those Y2K aesthetics but there’s nothing old about this fresh and captivating new musical from the deliciously deranged minds of Michael Breslin and Patrick Foley, who brought us the now iconic and Pulitzer Prize nominated Circle Jerk.

Review: The Last Bimbo of the Apocalypse at The New Group at The Pershing Square Signature Center

On the whole, though, The Last Bimbo of the Apocalypse is a smart, funny piece of work and has a lot to say about how internet culture has evolved, but how it’s sort of always been the same. People have always talked **** about other people. People have always wanted to be famous by any means necessary. People have always wanted to stand center stage and belt. Hell yeah, I say. More musicals like this, please.
