Hey, gang!
Quick question to the lot of you ... Should I see THE LITTLE FOXES? And, if so, which pairing? Linney's Regina and Nixon's Birdie? Trying to gauge the consensus.
Thanks a milllon!

Linney as Regina and Nixon as Birdie would be my vote. While I've heard great things about both pairings, that particular combo is a) the Tony nominated roles and b) I personally prefer the "on the verge", nervous Birdie that Nixon plays and the strong, sharp Regina that Linney does. The reverse (from clips, I haven't seen so I'm not the best judge) doesn't fully embody how I personally envision the roles. Most (if not all) critics saw and raved about Linney's Regina/Nixon's Birdie too I believe. I think either way you won't go wrong at all though.
Yes you should definitely go see The Little Foxes! I have seen both pairings and recommend Laura/Regina and Cynthia/Birdie. They are both doing excellent work but I think the production works the best and is most effective with this pairing. Plus as briansb says, you'd be seeing them in their respective Tony nominated roles.
I saw Linney/Regina and Nixon/Birdie last week, and it was magic. I cannot imagine being improved with the opposite pairing.
I'm seeing Nixon as Regina and Linney as Birdie next week. From articles I've read about this production and how it came about that they would share and swap roles, Linney said she had always wanted to play Birdie (although she was offered Regina) and Nixon wanted to play Regina. So I wanted to see a performance where they got to play the roles they coveted.

I saw Nixon as Regina and Linney as Birdie. I am seeing yhe opposite pairing in about a week. But I love Nixon as Regina and Linney as Birdie. Nixon's Regina is like a businesswoman. Cool, calm, collected. Just making a merger and acquisition. It might not be the most exciting way to play it but it rang so dramatically true.
Linney's Birdie was so realistic. She really got the loud, rambling, confused mannerisms that would be consistent with a long-term alcoholic. At the same time you also saw the bubbly young woman she once must have been. Heartbreaking.
Here's my review of the performance:

Having seen both, I more highly recommend Nixon as Regina/Linney as Birdie. But, honestly, it's a first-rate performance either way so you can't go wrong.

Just curious how do you know who is playing which role on a certain day?
